I have to be honest when I posted this thread I never imagined this kind of response.

Bigtom : Sorry man I did mention your name in a reply but I was saying that you are a legit buyer and threw you in the same pot as Christmas Tree. If you are truly buying up all the bargains in order to build and then donate  bikes to the underprivileged well done and  kudos to you. I`m sure most will even sponsor you equipment if you ask.

Mr Chrismas : Ja well he is playing by the rules so there is that. But there is also an upside to his buying and selling. Its been established that he is a trustworthy legit buyer and seller, so even when you miss out on that once in a life time bargain snapped up by him you will be able to buy it the next day for a few bucks more from him knowing its was not a scam. And when he buys from you, you don't have to worry about meetings some dodgy character in a dark ally for a cash deal.

If there is a bargain bike and its not snapped up by Christmas Tree it probably is a scam :-)

My only suggestion as to scammers is to NOT DELETED ANY ADS. When a deal is concluded and the equipment is sold, mark the item as sold but leave the add for historical reference. This will give us a  database that could be queried as to the value of second hand bikes and accessories over time. Also dodgy sellers will be outed and their dodgy sales will stay for others to see.

All very well reporting the shysters - the guys who are shady from the start, but what about legitimate Hubbers who behave with questionable sales ethics? Do we report or just rate negatively?

eg: I bought a fork from a guy who uses his real name - spoke to him on the phone, described the fork as being "in good condition & recently serviced". When it arrived stanchions were toast - called him out and he blamed the bike shop & said he'd spent the money already.

What to do in cases like these?

Have you just purchased it? tell them you want your money back and send the fork back to them.

Tradersvault would have prevented an issue like this, its making me seriously consider using it for larger purchases in future.

rate him, stating exactly that...

its the same, like there are guys who have 10 good rating and 1 bad.

the "onus" is still up to the buyer whether or not he wants the goods from the said seller

1. He needs to give your money back

2. Trader feedback is the only way to ensure no one ever buys from him again. If they get away with it they will keep trying their tricks.

If someone has a negative rating against his name and no positives , he won't sell his sh$t on the hub.

If he has 5 positives and one negative then you need to be cautious and maybe contact the person who put the negative comment there.

3 sides to story as well....

I asked for money back/product back. But now says he didn't know, says money spent.

I'm giving him a day or two to come around. Then I'm going to flame the guy.

How could you not know about this, or disclose it...?

Some ppl are unreasonable though. Beginning of last year I sold so road pedals to a guy in Durban. Arranged with a mate that the would take them to Durban as he was doing the same race as this gent.

He looked he bought,he rode the and then 2 wks later told me that there was a bearing issue. I couriered them back at my expense sent them to my lbs who said there was nothing wrong with the pedals, what is he talking about.

When I told the gent this he ok I must send them back all good,he just thought !

I told him I am not paying fora courier and he said he wasn't t either . I must delver them to his daughters house which was about 1hr 30 drive away from me if I recall correctly. I said no and he told me I was being difficult.

I refunded him immedialty because I could see this was going downhill fast. I resold them to another hubber who was more than happy with them.

The buyer is not always right and can ruin a persons rating for being a dck because there unrealistic expectation wasn't met. And then the onus is put on the seller ,even if the buyer is being a tw@t.

That needs no excuse!

Bury the seller.

Obviously had bad intent to try and even sell on the Hub without mentioning the VERY apparent fault.

I would flame him and name him.

Just do it!

There is only one side to this story.

agreed but then this would be again, buyer and seller rating.

you rate as seller, he rate as buyer

i have 1 rating as seller and like 7-8 as a buyer, i can however still be as dodgy as hell!
