Today my husband (Open category) and at least one other from Johanesburg were kicked out of the race at the start line of the time trail after riding stage 1.  The reason given - "can't ride with disc brakes, those are the rules".   This was not made clear anywhere on the website. The  bicycle he is riding came stock standard with disc brakes and he has ridden 2 previous tours with the same bike. Personally i think the information should have been highlighted and not assumed.R5000 and 5 months of training for this event down the tubes.  There are just way too many rules and regulations and politics  governing sport for it to be fun for the amateur anymore.

I feel you! I would however recommend he checks future CSA sanctioned event's T's&C's as they fall under UCI rules and at the moment discs on road bikes are a no-go.

I wouldn't blame the events, rather the industry that has been a bit arse about face with new tech and implementing them.

Much like manufacturers selling MTB's to the masses that come std with wheels that have a 85kg weight limit. No sense made there.

So will thus be for the Ctct Argus also? Or is the entrance money from all the mtb's needed?

i dont agree with Wynand de Villiers - the safety of the riders is the responsibility of the organisers/safety officer - the team manager is only allowed to drive behind 1 team rider - what about the other 3 or 4 riders in the team - they aren't allowed to have back up. that lane should have been 'coned' off for a 100 metres before the turn. there  was another close call at the middle turn where the new Slent road is under construction. a rider caught up with a truck that passed him and they took the turn together (not clever). riders will do anything to maintain a top 10 placing.

Was that a turn? If so,where were the cones and race marshals?

If I remember correctly the race organisers also messed up last year with some issues and also tried to shift the blame to the riders...

Yes, it's a turn or corner to the L

And the rider was gonna cross a lane to get there

Obviously to get the best racing line

Again, he is very fortunate

Timing issues again?

Wynand not taking responsibility again?

I'm sorry that all those people who trained for this again, paid huge entries with their hard earned cash again, look leave from work again, are being let down by the organizers again!

ASG can't claim UCI status and rules only when it suits them. Edited by Patchelicious

Checked VA now and it seems to be a mess? Or just not sorted?

Think its mostly for the social media thing? Very pedantric! Not sure what they are trying to achieve?

Regarding the incident. Not sure the rider was within the rules nor did he really need to ride in the right hand lane. Understandable that the truck would not have expected him to suddenly swerve left.

Watching that video again Im just really really relieved whe are not doing a RIP thread.

this was coned off by the time VA came through about 30 mins later but it should've been done in the first place. Edited by milky4130

They are like the UCI.. act after incidents instead of avoiding incidents in the first place, and always punish riders for making them look bad.

If it was a bigger name they would've had a different story

CSA and the organisers favour certain riders above others.. had it been eg..Sauser it would've been a very different story
