A line?

No it's the top bit of the trail below the tar road. It's a black wattle tunnel, steep and completely washed out to ****.  Only solution is cinder blocks like at Welvanpas. Or rocks.

Cinder blocks are meh... They make the trail seem 'less natural' if that makes sense. But they are probably the easiest to get right.

meh... desicions decisions!

I did a bit of measuring today looking at this area. Hopefully this picture gives a bit of perspective on size. Five meters from the drop it is four meters lower and it keeps on going down.

Next up is the slope, which in parts is roughly this

That will get more and more "interesting" as summer gets going...

they also act like a cheese grater if you come off at speed...

Yeah but poorly stacked man made rock gardens are literally the worst, and the blocks are durable.  But we'll still decide.

We're going to have to do this to one section of trail in Paarl that is just eroding to a point of being unrideable. Genuinely not looking forward to having to do this without imported labour.

When you take a day away from that to benchcut another trail and see it as a day off then you just know it is utterly awful work.

That said once it is finally done it should hold up for a long time.

And currently taking time off to grow a new collar bone.

Not related at all

Hahaha. Tim is a madman. 70kph down that jeeptrack is scary. No wait. 50 is scary. Wanted to ride that new dh stuff this weekend but I've got a small shoulder issue. Maybe next weekend.

Thanks for all the amazing work you guys have been putting in.

Dont worry, i hit 55 coming down the jeeptrack on the new exit past fairy garden on sunday morning. In the pissing rain! And theres corners to make it more interesting...

You were still 'aero' going through the boom at the bottom...

Hmmm, corners.

Sure! Hope to have it rideable by this weekend. We've been splitting time between Lizzard and the DH to take advantage of rain but back on DH now.

Please lord, let it be done today. Fingernails are black and blue and I think next time they get pinched I'm going to cry. I don't care anymore!

And not quite done, so back there tomorrow.

I'm off for a quiet weep...

DH0 going to be open from this weekend. We'll do one last inspection on Saturday morning and thereafter hopefully, if nothing was affected by the rain, by 10am will open the track. You are urged to walk the track first – It's new, it makes sense to at least see if it suits your skill levels but the entry, which is built as a qualifying feature, should discourage anyone with doubts.

  • The entry to the first two corners is quite technical and holds a few options for the best line.
  • The track speeds up after the second technical corner as it straightens out into a steep stone-lined descent with a drop option halfway.
  • The second half of the track starts using berms to hold riders on line and keep speed for the few drops and jumps that follow... Careful for the "bus stop" corner  , you'll need to scrub a lot of speed to make a near 90 degree bend before immediately building up speed again for a drop just a few meters away.
  • Riders exiting the trail are now visible from the road in both directions, so hopefully the threat of T-bone encounters are a thing of the past.

FYI; Road gap and a few other features will be built in time and track maintenance will be carried out more regularly until everything settles.
