Hout Bay Incident: Do you know this cyclist?

So unnecessary. It's a problem from both sides, some cyclists don't stick to the left of the road while many drivers pass way too close. Our club is very strict on riding against the shoulder specifically not to unduly annoy drivers.

My wife also drives a big vehicle (and also rides) and will pass as widely as possible, and have still had cyclists who weave all over the place and ride 2 abreast hurl insults at het for not causing a head on collision to give them even more space.

One thing's for sure, if one of them tried to pepperspray her there would be a dead cyclist.

Ironic post of the day, calls out cyclists for over reacting then says he will murder them if they over react towards a driver and it's his wife driving.

And the circle of life is complete.

So does anybody have the entire story yet? Little of column A, little of column B at the moment...

Everybody just needs to chill out a little and read Patchelicious' Hub signature, live like that and it will all be lekker!

Can't wait till the masses see this tomorrow from their free work internet.

From the photo it looks like the dude is taking a selfie.

Untill I know all sides of the story I will side with the cyclist. We have to stick together against arrogant motorists.

P.S. I am not saying either is right or wrong or that this particular motorist is arrogant. Just saying exactly as I wrote: we need to stick together against arrogant motorists.

I cannot see any scenario where it would be acceptable for a man to pepper spray a woman in the face. In exactly the same way that I cannot see a scenario where it would be OK to punch a woman in the face with your fist! Call me old fashioned if you like, argue about fine print, I just think it is wrong! I don't care what she said to him, how close she passed, how much she hooted, if he became the aggressor and used pepper spray on her, he is a bully and he assaulted her!

I disagree.

There is nothing to say a it is not possible for a women to be a physical threat to a man. An ex-girlfriend would keep a concealed knife, which she had used to stab someone before. Not that it was unjustified but it illustrates the point. So if some crazy chick was trying to stab me for what ever reason I would not hesitate to pepper spray her. Gender makes absolutely no difference to whether or not someone is threat.

He pepper sprayed her??? Are you being serious!!! The only time he could justify that sort of action is if she jumped out of the car, looking like some muscles stapped female form of Mr.Universe wearing a black belt karate outfit, or was holding a gun. Other than those situations he has no excuse to assault a woman.... end of story klaar.

If she bumped him then he had a witness and should have reported it to SAPS.

If none of those "sides of the story" took place, he is coward and I would advise her to lay a charge of aggravated assault.

There are women who use the threat of, or actual physical violence, against men, knowing (or hoping) that it won't be returned.

Any person, regardless of gender, age, race, etc., who seriously threatens me with physical violence can expect an equal, opposite and appropriate reaction. Full stop.

There are some "ladies" that drive Chappies that deserve a pepper spray to the face. I have had some lady pull out without looking, swear at us, then while passing us swerved to try knock us with her car. She got some cadence carbo fuel in the car for her efforts.

The original post on Facebook that started the snowball has now been removed.

Just be aware that Hout Bay motorists are now gatvol of cyclists (and often not without reason) especially along Empire Avenue.

Engage your brain when riding through HB - you do not own the road. The roads are bad - plenty pedestrians - skorro skorro taxi's abound - motorist with attitude etc.

If you have been listening to Cape Talk you would know that Kino Kammies has spoken to Province to limit access to Chapman's Peak for cyclists because of bad behaviour.

It only takes one or two to screw it up for the rest.

keino kammies is a ppa disciple and has entered the dc - ie which means he is the go to person for any opinion on cycling issues
