Judging by the OP there seems to have been more than one "somebody's" doing this.

This TBMTBCABCTMTBC seems to have more rogue rider problems than anywhere else. Why is that so?

The trails are within and around numerous suburbs, i.e. they are very accessible and directly so by probably thousands of cyclists

Definitely don't want to justify rogue riding but was also caught by surprise by how long Trail Z is - the loop took me far longer than expected. Agree that you could get caught out if not prepared...

ja, I reckon that smelly river will become quite inviting on a hot summers day. That valley is also in the wind shadow of the South Easter so no cooling breezes either.

I have been told that there is one place where it is possible to go off route if you not paying proper attention. I have missed trail markers during races before, so anything is possible.

Its always the immediate assumption this is deliberate  - maybe it  wasn't? Until someone is caught, we won't know. Land owners also need to be realistic in these situations as does the club. Sh$t happens. By all means put the word out, but the FB lynching frenzy really irritates me...

Yes can be Mr D. If they are not on designated trails, they are rogue. Member or not.

Thought rogue meant riding without paying. You're saying rogue means riding where you shouldn't, e.g. shouldn't ride anywhere if you haven't paid or don't display board, or don't ride off marked routes, etc. Gotcha.

I really must come and ride this Cobra. I assume my Helderberg board is OK? :whistling:

You must! Just make absolutely sure you belt it down there first time :whistling: and then let us know how it went...

(It was already getting pretty sketchy in places on Sunday, even without drop offs and the like, for a wuss like me)

I've said this before. Land access is a right and privilege which comes with obligations. No entitlement. It's probably in the form of contract. You (rider or club) don't fulfill your obligations, your lose your rights. Nothing to do with being realistic by the land owner.

If inexperienced riders are being caught out by the difficulty of the trail with no alternative, then perhaps (just asking) the onus is on the club to educate (communication), monitor (physically) and mitigate (warning signs at start, water points, etc)?.

Certainly, riders must ride within their ability and stick to the trails.

You also assume that this is the first time this happened? Maybe it wasn't?

Generally agree with your FB lynchmob comment but remember the stakes are big, that trail would have costed loads of money and man hours to build - to loose all that to a few rogues and then say "Oh well, sh&t happens"?

Unfortunately the only way to teach children is to treat them like children.

The sense of entitlement amongst cyclists in general is awful.

Punish those who will not listen.Ban them.No suspension.Arrest them for trespassing and lay charges. If all fails just shut down the trail and find something else to do.

I am absolutely amazed at how selfish these riders are.Just throw the book at them

They should just impound their bikes if they are off trail.... then fines, warnings etc to get them out again....

Maybe they were trying to find an easier way out of the valley, and away from a fairly crappy trail. :whistling:

It can catch you off guard with the amount of climbing necessary to get back to Hoogekraal.

And on a hot, windless day, it is going to be hell down there.

So if you are under prepared for it......

A guy with a 'The end is nigh, be prepared to die' sandwich board at the start of the trail should keep the riff-raff and beginners out. It was really busy on Sunday.

This was bound to happen sooner or later.

Were these definitely all members or day visitors?

It is astounding to see how the sense of entitlement is exercised on the trails

Catch you off guard when the distance and ascent readings are right there at the start of the trail, where it peels off from the main Hoogekraal trail?

Dunno about you, but I tend to pay attention to those and gauge just how tired I am before rolling into a trail I'm not familiar with.
