Hi All,

so i am blessed with poor eyesight. cannot have laser. and dry eyes make contacts a pain.

i am looking at options regarding prescription sunglasses purely for riding.

i know rudy project is a great option - expensive and stupid long time to delivery.

oakley have a few options - flak jacket 2.0 looks nice, but not entirely sold on the styling as yet

anyway, what are you riding with? and how do you find them?

Thanks in advance!

I have the Adidas Evil eye with my prescription insert.

It has made my life so much easier...

Also has low light lenses which you can change in a matter of seconds.

My optometrist told me that now they can organise prescribed Lenses for the top level suppliers like Oakley, Rudy & Adidas.

I'm in the process of getting a new set of riding glasses with tested lenses.

PM me if you need more info...

Will go with the Oakley Jawbreakers with tested Lenses...

Rudy Project make a prescription lens, but really expensive.

Best bet is they also sell an insert that clips inside any of the RP glasses and an optometrist puts in a normal lens. So you can move the insert between RP glasses, if photocromic, still works, and way cheaper.

I think medical aid even paid back some of the cost.

I tried the lot.

Oakley make the best IMO. They have a scheme where your optometrist submits your prescription online along with the model you want and they ship them the next day. You get them about 5 days later.

I have two very different styles of Oakleys. As far as I recall they can do prescriptions in almost any of their models. One set is Photo chromatic and has only my riding  prescription.

The other set is multifocal and has a fixed tint to the lenses.

Hi.

I used to to riding with Oakleys but was waaayy to old and cannot afford replacements. So I decided to go the "Dan from Nam" way. Got myself decent glasses with photochromics. Now I use my glasses for work and play and works great.

That sucks man!

Go have a look at the new Adidad Evil eye and the new Rudy series.

They all can do prescription lenses.

I use Oakleys with Oakley prescription lenses in them. I have had them for about 4 years now. Got photochromic ones so I can ride day or night.

I did cost quite a bit but IMO worth it.

Jawbones have been replaced by the Racing Jacket (same lens) so try that.

What's your script? A lot of RX sunglasses can't do stronger scripts due to the curvature of the lens. I know that my script can't be done by Rudy Project after chatting to ASG.

I switched to 1 day contacts for cycling and have found it really helps with the dry eye discomfort. I typically wear monthlies on days I don't plan to cycle.

Just visit a decent optometrist - they can put lenses in any full frame sunglasses - so you might have an existing pair of glasses that you can use.

I don't wear my scripted lenses when riding - keep hitting things.... like 440l dustbins...

Jumped out from behind a tree, I swear it!

I ride with contacts and Photochromic Jawbreakers. Have a pair of standard Holbrooks which I'll be getting scripted lenses for as the lenses are scratched to pieces now. Was going to do the transition lenses in the Holbrooks but i really looked like Steve Urkel when they were clear (tested by popping out the lenses)

my issue is largely in low light situations, like forest. I've been to at least 3 different shops. And for prescription lenses, photochromic, anti glare, anti scratch I was quoted between 6500 - 7800, this is for oakley and rudy project with the latter being the more expensive of the two.this was more than a year ago. Still never managed to save up for this.

i just got my Oakley Triggerman glasses done with the standard polarized oakley lenses for R3250 less 20%(discovery) = R2600. a win IMO.

would really love to get my jawbreakers done in the same way
