It amazes me that their specialist PR agency needed someone to give them some instruction on handling a PR incident. Simply incredible.

What amazes me is how the foreign owners of L"etape could have done SO little diligence on the SA franchise owners, and everyone involved, including the miserable excuse PR bunch when awarding the SA franchise.

This is not a no-harm scenario - people have incurred HUGE costs and inconvenience, well above the ticket price, which itself was extremely high.  I sincerely hope that if this event is ever staged in SA, it is given to reputable and responsible organizers, and NOT some fly-by-nighters.  I mean, FFS, giving it to the clowns that worked with Mbalula and the Commonwealth Games? Come on, TDF Organizers - you can do better!!!

With respect, your comment is not fair...

If CTCT had been allowed to start, cyclists would have been injured with the possibility of deaths. Then, the Hub would be full of abuse and recriminations against the organisers. That wind was a freak of nature over which the organisers had no control.

This event has been cancelled because of fraud or incompetence or stupidity. Time will tell.

Not even a close comparison...

With respect, Meezo...

At least someone has bought the PR offensive by CTCT hook line and sinker. Gullible much? I better pull out the old gullibility virus email.  It's like the helmet saved my life. How do you know people would have been injured or died because the CTCT started? Do you know that EVERY YEAR riders get injured in the CTCT, some have even died? Hell, every day someone on a bike gets injured.

What is next, the nanny state of cycling.

Meezo is 100% correct, whatever the reason the benchmark for an event getting cancelled has been set.

100%

Maybe the connection to Mbalula and CG gave them credibility. Remember at the time it was announced back in October the CG were still on. Even if only in the minds of the Ministry of Sport and his cronies.

Maybe I'm not very bright... Why would the Organisers of CTCT have cancelled the race if not for the safety of the cyclists? Where is their gain?

Read the conspiracy threads. They got so close to the truth they were shut down. Or not.

Put it this way. The people who have this comprehension despite their disappointment are not the stupid ones.
