It almost came to grief a few times by jove he did it.

Refreshing to see how the crossers have changed the racing style on road (I credit the crossers with showing the roadies how to race with panache).

"I was going to the race favourites I know and showing off the dropper. They asked me what I was doing with a dropper and laughed but I warned them that if they follow me on descent, it's at their own risk.  🤣🤣

"Due to the UCI rules we had to use a dropper that was on the market and so went for a MTB model.  We tested a 12cm dropper but that was too much and meant the pedalling wasn't efficient anymore, so we opted for a 6cm device. I had a grip shift on the bars and lowered and lifted it several times on the descent of the Poggio.   People have long dismissed the idea of using dropper posts but the technology is more advanced now and they don't weigh much more than a regular seatpost."

Mohorič used the Fox Transfer SL Performance Elite seatpost to great effect while descending off the Poggio on Saturday afternoon.

The UCI have confirmed through a brief statement that no rules were broken - Article 1.3.013 states that 'The peak [front] of the saddle shall be a minimum of 5cm to the read of a vertical plane passing through the bottom bracket spindle', a rule which in theory limits how far a rider could drop their seatpost during a race.

That 5cm is a bit daft because it places shorter riders with shorter femurs at a disadvantage

After Mohorič’s win there's been a massive increase of pro cycling news publications analysing and reviewing dropper posts for use on road bikes.  They’ve all sat up and done gone entirely stunned with excitement.

Actually quite chuffed for Mohoric, he was brave enough to try it at a major event and it worked out  perfectly for him.

The use of a dropper post has been talked about on here a while back as well as on GCN, IIRC it was all triggered when the supertuck was banned.

Would we know if it was used elsewhere unsuccessfully? Or is this the first time it was used in the Pro Peloton that we know of?

Astana used them in 2016 at the Tour, with a 20mm drop.

Thanks. That is the same year that Froomey did his Supertuck-Pedaling attack for the stage win. So the dropper wasn't competitive against a supertuck.
