How to bring down HR ???

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

So after I did W2W last year, I haven't spend much time on my MTB....my peak season at work started so needed to get back in the routine!

From W2W until now, I did a lot of running and swimming, but we all know you can't compare that towards cycling.

Did a MTB ride this morning with AVG HR of 160bpm.....jeeeeez that was k@k!!!!

I assume I must start with slow base rides or just get time in the saddle again, but what is the best possible way to bring down AVG HR ??? Training tips and suggestions welcome.

Sorry if there is already a thread like this, so your welcome to point me in the right direction.

Happy cycling !!! ;-)

Are you going at e.g. Zone 2 effort, and you HR involuntarily zips up to Zone 3?

Then you must go see the doc

Did you have a triple espresso just before hitting the trails?

That can spike the ol pomp

Hours and hours of mind numbingly boring zone1-2 intervals.

I do them on the IDT 1:30 HR stays between 100bpm and 130bpm.

You do a 10 min warmup, then you just spin away for the rest of the 1:20 remaining at that HR intensity.

Also those nice and long 4hr rides at around Aerobic Endurance zone - Tempo zone

To give you and example I did a 4hr ride this weekend (1542m elevation, 105Km, IF at 0.88) and my avg HR was 156bpm

Zone 3 - 32:07min

Zone 4 - 29:13min

Zone 5 - 1:14:26min (jeeeeeeeezzzz)

Thanks! I don't have a indoor trainer so Wattbike at the gym it is then, difficult to ride that Zones when out MTBing (just for me)

How were these zones defined?  Default values from Garmin?

Not difficult, just ride slowly, ignore race snakes and ignore the urge to go quickly... set a HR alarm on your garmin so that it beeps at the upper limit... hear the sound, hit the brakes, slow down, bring HR back into the zone

Best get your real max heart rate in stead of the 220 - age formula, if you have not done that already. You might be genetically predisposed to a fast heart rate. Then define your zones.
