Your best FTP gain over the winter months

Recommended Posts

We are lucky in Durbz... there is no winter and not much rain during the cooler months. Its the best conditions to ride outside.

My plan during winter will be to improve my climbing, lose more weight and do more cross training. Will maybe throw in 1 focussed indoor session to build FTP.

Been reading through a few of the articles on here > http://flammerouge.je/factsheets/factsheets.htm

The advantage of moving "our" race from February to October/November - we (club) get to ride our MTBs route through the winter, as well as LSD road rides.

Having the right gear makes it easy to get up for the 04:30 (week days) and 05:30 (weekend rides). No worrying about data, just riding - and enjoying coffee at our locale (also a race team sponsor).

Before the kickr and with your IDT, how did you measure your power? You have a power meter and which one?

And regarding your saddle, you didn't change the actual position up/down/forward/backwards?

Hi Andydude, no power meter it was the power determined by Trainer Road for my Cycle Ops Fluid 2. I did adjust the saddle a little bit backwards and lower it....(feels more comfortable)

What time do you go to sleep in the evenings?

I find it really rough to get up before 6 due to the fact that I study till late in the evening and get my IDT work done then.

Not winter months, but Cadence class twice a week and easy rides between, with longer moderate rides on weekends gave me 36% gain in FTP in 6 months to now, with December off.

Granted it was off a very low base, only up to 3.7w/kg now. Was supposed to be doing weights as well but not disciplined enough for that

I'm to swak to try a ftp test now (2/3 thru winter here in Europe) ftp has without doubt dropped substantially

But I'm working on it... slowly slowly kill da monkey

Wanted to qualify for World Duathlon champs last year and I needed to get into some sort of shape.  Got a coach, got a program and increased my FTP by 36% in just over a year.  Most of the sessions were done on an IDT and involved lots of low cadence intervals at 3 and 4% gradients.  Also dropped from 80kg down to 75 which made a huge difference.post-15215-0-49590400-1487677499_thumb.jpg

Most nights between 9 and 10pm.

A late night though hits me hard and I take about 3 days to recover.

Was bloody tough let me tell you.  Double sessions per day - was getting up at 3:30 in the morning to do a 90min cycle before I left for work at 6.  Did my run in the afternoon after work.

According to this link http://road.cc/content/forum/141094-trainer-road-vs-power-meter people have found differences up to 50 watts between trainer road and other power meters.

Maybe some of the comments can help. But not sure if that answers your question?
