Sadly there have been numerous incidents on that stretch of road from the graveyard to the circle.

Monday morning at about 8:30 a cyclist was held at knifepoint and relieved of his cell phone.

Many incidents don't even get reported.

I also would not bother to report certain incidents, unless I need it for insurance purposes. Police never do anything, they dont go and investigate to find who the culprits could be and arrest them. This is South Africa where police sirens are used to get you out the way so they dont have to sit in traffic.

Looks like roadies will soon be riding with full face helmets and body armour.

And maybe something like this, won't do much for weight savings though.

By not reporting crimes, the police are not going to focus any attention to your area.

Yes, they maybe incompetent and your incident may never be solved/looked into.

But by reporting all crimes, resources will be diverted to hot spots.

Worst case scenario, your area becomes safer.

Also crime stats reflect the true situation and not the crime down reported by our minister because of lackluster citizens.

Disclaimer: I have no idea of any details, this is from a criminologist I sat next to on a plane recently.

100% agree. If you don't say anything, expect nothing to get done. Think of it like voting... It's a duty to society. IMO at least

Agreed, the crime stats will also not be accurate and people complain the stats are skewed.

Don't report = Nothing WILL happen.

Report = Something MIGHT happen.

I agree with this one exception.  However, as Bateleur1 pointed out, if you don't report, "nothing happens" becomes the best case scenario.

Telkom guy stopped at my place yesterday to look at my ADSL line. He had damage on his bakkie's windscreen. Apparently people at Sir Lowry's Pass Village threw a brick at him when he drove through there in the morning when he looked at a problem on a farm there.

In america and probably most of europe..... If you report lets say a stone being thrown at a motorist windscreen. Do the police go out and look for the culprits, then find them and lock them up, or do they do jack like here in South Africa?

Stats of crime is only good for the real estate market to determine how much you can sell your house for. Furthermore, when it comes it small crimes, nothing gets done about it and time and again some Dealer will get busted just to show they doing something.

My wife and I also ride that route every now and then. Not had a problem so far. I also heard about a guy riding down from Constantia Neck on the weekend who was hit with a stick across his neck. Will be seeing the guy at the CTCT and will find out more then. Not sure if it was into Hout Bay or the Constantia Road side. He didnt fall and nothing was taken. Its getting worse by the sound of it.
