Looking forward to this, as the Argus/CTCT has been the most forgettable event on the Elite ladies' racing calendar for years.

Every hard-working break attempted was closed down by chasing women sitting in a Vets or Masters bunch. The sprint finish has been a joke as you could hardly spot the women mixed in the age-group men's categories or tandems. It was plain disrespectful of the needs and wants of women racers.

This may not be the perfect solution, but it is a damn fine start to showcasing the real talent and exposing aggressive positive racing. Let's listen to feedback, tweak accordingly and announce it earlier next year.

Kudos, CTCT, CSA and PPA. Now give it the media attention it deserves too.

Am sure there will be quite a few post race reports by the ladies and teams... will be interesting to hear... and perhaps we may get the facts with regard to the late notice and change

It's so people have less time to debate and moan about it.

It's a good start.. the late notice is unfortunate and distance should ideally be longer

BUT

It is a start after many many years of the elite ladies asking for it

I hope they aren't just doing it to save face and then claim after oh there weren't enough ladies, format doesn't work.

You must obviously not taken part in a Killarney Thursday night or a crit.

Some of my toughest races have been 90 minute crits.

Crits are different. Nobody rides a long distance race at max output 100% of the time.

Organisers obviously need to fit in the ladies finish before the cavalry elites get there. As long as the majority women are happy, we should all let it go.

My point was that a 76km race does not make it easier than a 109km. Nobody gets dropped before Smits anyway with the massive headwind, the group would just sit together anyway.

What they could do is make it start in West Lake and go over Ou Kaapse Weg in the first 5km and then do the rest of the route. That will make it tougher

I still think it would be cool to have all the racing cats go off at 15h or thereabouts. The ladies can be after the masters. Nobody catches anybody. And there will be more crowd support.

Edit: You can even make it a better pro/elite race by throwing in another 30/40km at the start for them.

My suggestion would be as follows: each elite lady gets (randomly) assigned to a fun rider. First lady with funrider to cross the finish wins ;)

It's Friday after all!

Hijack, but checked the CSA website for something today and saw our photo from probably 5/6 years ago. Can you guess where?

Extreme funride world champs...

It's Friday after all!

They call that the mixed category at the epic. Just bring reinforced pockets!

But u/23 and Elites all start together and winner overall will be first lady across the line. Or am I misreading it?

That is almost correct.

If the U23 wins the day she takes both titles and prize money.

If an Elite Lady wins then there are two winners allocated prize money.

U23 money may be a Mandela knowing how PPA allocates funds.

City would not give road closure for that long. Been suggested and tabled before.

How cool would it be to be able to ride AND watch the finish sprint.

and see the "pro's" suffer in the late afternoon wind!!! As the early riders never gets the wind as the later starting groups!!

" the approximate distance is 76km "

In this day and age can't they give an exact distance ?

How often is a race advertised at x distance and it turns out different? Happens all the time, unfortunately.
