Happy Bday dude, hope your side doesn't get anymore painful as the day progresses.

Pity about the bike damage.

For the purpose of total transparency, did you maybe also ride through the 4 way stop?

I dont totally understand the accident, but one thing is for sure, it could have been alot worse.

I stopped, unclipped. Then got going again when it was my right of way. There is a decline on the road from the side he was approaching so he came down with speed. I ride this bit of road a few times a week so don't take any chances when approaching it as it sometimes get busy.

Happy birthday, glad you are ok.

Please get a picture of him and his car. I will put it on Twitter and personally pay to promote it on social media and get his mug all over. Driver must know that there is consequences to their illegal actions.

The lack of accountability is directly proportional to the lack of consequence.

Thanks Patch. Will do.

thanks guys

Just found out this driver is from Pakistan so could make this case more interesting.

Will try to get to him tonight...

Happy birthday VeeBee, have a jol tonight.

As for the Pakistani...

So, I did some work in Lusaka, and had the misfortune of a Pakistani driver escorting me around (they drive bad. REALLY bad). Basically he admitted to being in Zambia illegally, as are all his buddies, and they drive around without licences, and should they get caught, either jail or deportation. I asked him if this was normal, and he said they do it all the time. "They" being the friendly folks from Pakistan / Bangladesh et al.

This is going to be very interesting if you catch this mullet.

Veebee, glad to hear you made it through well enough to still make it a 'happy birthday'.

I had a near miss a few weeks back when I was almost taken out by a truck when I had right of way (though being right would have had little value if I'd been hit...)

I emailed the company whose truck it was, and they came back very quickly saying they'd discipline the driver.

I thanked them for taking my comments seriously, but asked they rather educate their drivers around cyclists. i'd rather the guy knows to look out for us than look for one of us intentionally trying to run us down because he got into trouble.

I would assume its the same with this guy, any maybe 1 of the reasons why he didn't stop.

My brother is well connected with the local cops as they spend quite a bit of time on a shooting range together, so I am hoping that this will help in nailing this guy.

yeah for sure, you have a valid point. There's quite a few cyclists around the Bluff here, and we rarely come across stuff like this. Most drivers know to look out for us and majority of them give us space. But you always going to find that 1 rotten apple...
