Also saw loads of energy gel wrappers which was sad. Surely it can't be that difficult to just stuff it in your back pocket?

What I do find funny is all the water bottles always ending up like 2m after a bump in the road. That's flipping hilarious  :D  I saw at least 10 water bottles along the trail yesterday.

I'm keeping an eye on the photo website for my snaps... :)

That's them fancy carbon bottle cages for ya which should really only be used on roadies.

50km Had one bump that threw out bottles galore, counted about 8 bottles littered there (yes i was riding almost at back).

Other than that only saw 2 wrappers, with best intention to pick them up, bending was not part of my capability at that stage.

Strangely I feel fine today except for the sinus infection having gone completely haywire again.

At least no one is complaining about a bottle neck in the short downhill ST section just before you cross Helshoogte road.

This year was the first time we did not have walkers on this section (must be because I was waaaayyyy at the back of the 60km riders.  :whistling:  )

Was able to go down there so fast the lady at the armco barriers screamed at me to slow down, and something about a slippery bridge. (crate over the ditch)  :D

Had the same experience, don't think I had any point in the race where I was being held back by walkers... one of the benefits of being right at the back :)

I did the 42km this year. Just over 2 hours. Sun was shining and i was out on the bike so a good day but i did found the route, well, a bit meh. After the climb up botmanskop i could just hear skyfall calling my name (even though with this large field it properly would not have worked) So 65km for me next year! How was the singles on the 65 and 75 routes??

Can't comment on the 75km, the 65km did not feel like there was that much ST.  But as others have mentioned the benefit of that was very little walking or especially there at the muratie climb.

Lesson: if you're keen for some single track to enjoy after you've done some climbing, this is not the event to do. Failing that there are some awesome spots to ride in the area. Uitkyk being one of them I believe.

I agree, would probably be back next year for the 60km again, every time doing the route a bit faster and a bit stronger after the winter (ok was not that much faster, helped someone out to fix there bike on the way).  The other race that also touch the area that I have enjoyed a lot is the Spur Classic

2 x 500ml bottles for me and a few steamed potatoes on the 75km and refueled on the last WP. Honestly, you can get away with one bottle, there is sufficient water points to fill up the bottles if you not racing for podium
