WTF CSA?

As I mentioned before, my CSA annual membership was due to expire 31 July and I have no intention of renewing. Received an email from CSA yesterday confirming the membership expiration and what was interesting and downright hilarious is the excerpt below:

 

"Here are six reasons why renewing your membership is a great idea. As a valid member you receive:

*             Preferential rates with Europcar when you hire a vehicle anywhere in South Africa

*             Access to cycling related content on our online community portal, bespoke

*             Your personal LiveLife Solutions loyalty rewards card, offering benefits with retail partners across the country

*             15% rebate will be loaded onto your LiveLife Rewards card for your ICE ID purchase"

 

Out of their own six reasons why you should renew your CSA membership, they could only find four  .

 

Guess the non-existent two (which are probably the only reasons for joining) relate to the policies they have let lapse.

 

So the only benefits of being a standard CSA member is access to a loyalty program and receipt of news that can be sourced elsewhere. Bloody hell.

How many big sponsors have been brought into CSA in the last five years?

Same old excuses. If it's been such a big problem for so long, why is it only being addressed now....

He was employed to bring in sponsors. In 5 years he has brought in none. Should have been fired ages ago.

 

Now he blames everyone else and thinks he can fix all the problems.

He wasn't even able to find a treasurer (until now) .how the hell can he fix the mess he couldn't fix in 5 years.

 

The mere fact that financials weren't available at the AGM meeting says to me he was hiding the problems for a long time and hoping it would magically go away.

Bottom line?

And should we renew? No 

They take money from me at the start of year for membership , then a % of every race I do and for this I see zilch. Unless I see some sort of turnaround and benefit I will not be renewing next year.

took the liberty of editing your post to reflect my decision for next year.

 

I also plan to enter online, before my membership expires in early Jan - thus avoiding the need to pay for a day licence for the Jan/Feb races.

Is a csa membership necessary to enter events?

 

Also, has it been confirmed whether one can take part in the open seeded groups using a disc brake road bike?

My CSA licence ends 1 November, so have entered all the races that I will do for the rest of the year online.  Will not be renewing and will likely not do any races beginning of next year... will watch and see how thing pan out with CSA.

 

If numbers start dropping for races because of not being licenced or buying a temp licence, will organisers start waiving the temp licence so get the numbers?
