Go the wahoo kickr snap and have been using it for the last week or so.

When doing a workout, in ERG mode, there is suddenly a resistance spike. Its just for a second or so and then it goes back to whatever the resistance should be.

Doesnt happen all the time but its really frustrating.

Any one experienced something similar?

happens with my Flux when switching between intervals.

Happens during a rest period and also during an interval.

Cadence pretty much stays the same and then suddenly just a huge spike in resistance, as if the brakes are put on and then released again. Can see on the graph where the power just drops as the resistance kicks in.

6 Times in less than 10 minutes

Exactly, the use of a PowerTap (hub, pedals or chainring) and a basic trainer like a Fluid 2 will be perfect for doing interval training with Zwift, TrainerRoad or CycleOps Virtual Training. TrainerRoad however may be better off as they have a variety of programs / workouts.

I still think that the majority of the IDT market love controlled resistance and doing routes be it Zwift or CycleOps Virtual Training.

It would be very interesting to hear what the Hubbers use most, routes or workouts ?

Use mine for workouts, hardly ever do routes (I get outdoors for that).  Now that CVT has the Trainingpeaks integration for workouts, will be much easier uploading the workouts for the day  :)

Anyone used the Elite Digital Smart B+ trainder before?

Currently on the top of my list for an reasonably affordable smart trainer

The power accuracy isn't that great. For 2K more rather look at he Rampa.

I've experienced the same on the Kickr (1) using Zwift.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned on this thread..

I'm rather keen on Tacx... either the Flux or Neo.. who'd the best bet be to contact locally for pricing info etc?

edit:-

I was told that Tacx will limit me and Kickr is open source, so I'm better off on a Kickr.

Tacx users? are you limited?

Not sure why the Tacx would be limited... they were one of the first (if not the first) to support the standard FE-C protocol. Should work with all the trainer software that matters.

I use my Tacx Vortex Smart with CycleOps' VirtualTraining (now called Rouvy), for example, with no issue

I've found today it's better to start looking at which training platform you want to use.

IE:

TrainerRoad - MOST Open by all, supporting most trainers via either BTLE or ANT+ FE-C

TrainingPeaks

Sufferfest

Then you pick which trainer they support, FE-C is old, you want to look at Trainers that support BTLE these days.

All of these will most probably end being the top end smart trainers, configured most probably into ERG mode.

Do yourself a favor and read:

1: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/10/annual-winter-2016-2017-bike-smart-trainer-recommendations.html

2: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/11/trainer-apps-guide.html

3: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/07/everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know-about-ant-fe-c-and-bike-trainers.html

I will state, go as OPEN as possible, and fact is that race is lead by the Wahoo Kickr, their local support is 1st place, (When you get a trainer, which primarily supply the training software to control it and thats the only way to control it..., you are semi into what they decide to do, how they decide.. The Wahoo does ship a training app, but they also totally completely open.

Then pick the app, for quality time, best return on time spend, this is most probably a interval based app and this race is lead by TrainerRoad www.trainerroad.com

My understanding is FE-C is very desirable, as this is an acceptable standard, whereas BTLE is very useful, but each company applies their own method of communicating.

DC Rainmaker says first priority is pairing via FE-C, then look at BTLE

Hi guys

Looking at purchasing a smart trainer over the weekend to use with Zwift.  These are the options I have in mind.

Elite Qubo Digital Smart B+

https://nsquared.co.za/collections/interactive/products/qubo-digital-smart-b

TACX Vortex Smart T2180

http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/tacx-trainer-vortex-smart-t2180

TACX Flow Smart

http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/tacx-t2240-trainer-flow-smart

Not to concerned about wattage as I am not a powerful sprinter.  Just a few things I will mention that might help you guys assist me.  I am going to use it with a QR wheelset, I have a Garmin cadence sensor and I don't own a power meter

I am looking for something to as a basic app to calibrate using basic information.  Thanks for any advise.

They are all very close in terms of spec. The Vortex Smart seems ever so slightly better (capable of 7% incline supposedly, vs 6% for the other two), but I am not sure one could even feel the difference.

All three have bluetooth and ANT+ FE-C, so you should be able to use any of them with whichever app you want.

As the Vortex Smart is probably the oldest of the three, you might need to update its firmware to enable the FE-C support, mind you - I had to borrow someone's iphone for this, but there is an Android app for it too now.

I did find some posts on Zwift's forum where people were having trouble with the Qubo's bluetooth support (link). Maybe just check that out first before you make your decision - if that has been sorted out since then with a firmware update, then the Qubo is a good option at the lower price.

Anybody that could maybe comment on the effect these direct drive trainers have on your frames.

The chilly season is approaching FAST in the UK and I would like to get my wife sorted on one to train with on the real miserable days....just concerned the carbon frame would not take the punch?
