Might be the first thing breaking off / bending in a small crash.

Guess insurance companies will hate it... ^_^

Have you ever bent a disc rotor in a crash? Or broken a QR/TA lever?

So seems like this is the new 2018 S-works Epic FSR.

Interesting that the FSR has been replaced with Single Pivot Design....Flex like Scalpel / Spark.

I'm no suspension expert, but am I right in saying that this is not actually a true single pivot?

guess this "brain" will protect the TA in a crach as first contact point to the ground ja

but it is.

It's got an uninterrupted bar from the main pivot to the axle. Hence, single pivot.

It's a linkage actuated single pivot design. Yes, it has flex in the seatstays, but that doesn't mean it's not a single pivot.

Heard via the grape vine they hired main tech guys from cannondale 2 years ago to help get the bike lighter and this is what they've come up with.

Bottom line is they've gone from leaders to playing catch up with cannondale/Scott.

How is that "innovate or die" slogan working out for them now?

This was leaked on the specialized website late on Tuesday...

"Let’s be honest with each other—XC riding and racing has changed. Gone are the race courses that resembled walking paths through the park. In are sections of trail that could be mistaken for an enduro track. We knew we had to address the sharp, often intimidating ride characteristics of XC bikes, so everything was thrown out the window and we started from scratch.

We increased the reach to make for a longer, more stable front end. To keep the rider position consistent with what we have today, we shortened the stem length, which also makes for quick handling. The head angle, meanwhile, was slackened by 1.5 degrees to create an aggressive 69.5-degree angle. Those two changes combine to create a bike that's much more confident at speed and descending through steep and rough terrain. But you're probably thinking, "That slack of a head angle will make a cross country bike floppy and slow, right?" Wrong. The bike and suspension team tested dozens of tuning setups and fork offsets until settling on what gave us the best balance of stability and snappy handling, leaving you with a 42mm fork offset. You can have your cake and eat it, too."

All true but rather late to the party considering that they had already embraced this kind of geo in 2010 with their trail bikes.

I doubt the HL offered much in the way of benefits on an XCO course - probably more so on marathons where it 'may" have been a bit more active under braking on long descents. What confuses me is that they still have the brain system which to my mind is superfluous and weighty.

All that said, it looks like the Spaz will gain back lost ground in the SA XCM market with this beast...

I'm sure we'll see in the next 3 months or so when all the mamils are 'racing' their 2018 epics

Not sure who you are referring to but Peter Denk has left Dale to go to the BIG S....
