Fair enough! As for the drop bars, does Kittel actually ride in the drops?

Yes, but he knocks his teeth on the stem... Not ideal. Also, hand is away from the brakes. Also less than ideal.

What I need is a longer stem for that bike.

carbon?!

do you want this kid to be teased about his plastic bike from such a young age? I should report you to child protection immediately.

get one of these CUSTOM STEEL BIKES and he will have any chick he wants, even some he doesn't

I am rather handy with carbon fibre, not with welding Alu or steel.

Also, spend wise, for what you pay for a really poor excuse for a bike I could build something with better geometry and he will enjoy.

As for the weight will make him stronger, kids have 'X' energy. It gets expended over time. By having a heavier bike he just uses more energy quicker. With the light bike he will just ride for longer.

That is really over thinking it dude............We all want/wanted the best for the little ones, but keep it real and you will see how tough and clever they really are.........don't go overboard.

No man, when I was two or 5 or whatever, I liked cycling. Did I care that my bike weighed a ton? Heck no! I don't get what all this nonsence about expensive kids bikes is about-if it's got two wheels and if pedalling makes it go forward a kid will be happy. At least I was

Savage, I honestly think you're overthinking this and projecting your wants onto your little one.

There is little point in getting your kid a super high end bike with drop bars. He's still pissing the bed, not ripping up Grand Tours.

My point was more along the lines of, for less than the cost of a Makro special I could make a bike that would fit him better and in turn happen to be lighter.

Spent the evening trawling instagram and in the end found another parent in Cape Town that has imported a Alu kiddies first pedal bike with V brakes and a low BB. Just going to find out pricing. If it ticks all the boxes then will go this route.

Biggest problem with kiddies bikes are the weight. As carbon is light thought it was logical.

As a % of total mass, the bike makes up a huge percent compared to adults.

My laaitie has a Titan 16inch

As heavy as one of my Beemer's doors

Built to last, built for jumping sidewalks and throwing it down when running to chase butterflies

'Train heavy, race light'
