Best wishes to the family and may the road ahead be a blessed one. Thank you 2Bliss for allowing us a look into their journey and I pray that the healing and loss of Karmi's twin is not to hard to bear as the parents of this beautiful girl move forward. I look forward to celebrating the milestones with the rest of the hub, as and when the updates come through.

As a prospective father the road they traveled is a stark reminder of what can go wrong, and how against all odds the little one can still pull through.

Hope they enjoy having bundle of joy at home and can continue with all the good news and mile stones.

The big day is finally upon us. After 71 days in NICU and PICU, Karmi is going home tomorrow!!! :)

Thank you all for your continued support throughout this rollercoaster ride. You have played a role in her recovery, as well as helping her parents cope with emotional and financial stress.

A summary of what our little Bunny has overcome:

- After a very difficult and traumatic birth, doctors at first thought that she hadn't survived.

- She had a brain bleed and a hole in her heart.

- She had to be resuscitated three times over the following days.

- Ventilators, from which she had to be weaned over 6 weeks, kept her breathing.

- A collapsed lung, aspiration and pneumonia were further complications.

- Two central venous lines both became infected.

- Anemia of prematurity required 7 blood transfusions to ensure adequate oxygen perfusion. (Thank you to all blood donors out there!)

- At first her tummy could not digest milk. They started with 1 ml, but when they reached 7 ml they had to wait a week and start over.

That is all in the past. Like V12Man said, she is now a baby and no longer a preemie. She has grown from 32cm to 46cm and has doubled her 950g birth weight. Her eyes and ears seem to be fine.

There is just so much to be grateful for...

Thank you so much 2Bliss for sharing Karmi's story. It has been heart wrenching at times, but we get to share in the joy of her parents who get to finally take her home.

I have said it before, and I will say it again, we serve a mighty awesome God, who helped Karmi overcome all odds stacked against her.

Truly, there is MUCH to be grateful for.

I will pray for her parents for their grief in losing Karmi's brother, and for the parents of the other little fighter who did not make it.

I remember the fear and trepidation I had when we took our daughter home from hospital. I stopped to check on her breathing before we even left the hospital parking lot.

On the way home we drove past two schoolgirls and I remarked to my wife that our baby will also grow up to be that big. More tears all around. It was nothing like the movies, we got home with a still crying baby and a massive poefdoek.

I hope Karmi's parents have a better homecoming than we did.

Need I say more...

Looks like a chicco keyfit car seat. I remember taking my lightie home in that and also having to use that extra insert for smaller babies. Won't be long and the white insert gets removed. Then not much longer after that and the shoulder straps move up to the higher setting. Then in no time at all that seat gets packed away because it's too small. She is too cute. What weight did she leave the hospital at?

Yes, it is the Chicco Keyfit.  Good eye!  I certainly would not have known had I not been involved in the selling of the twin travel system and buying of the replacement.  That white insert is a huge bonus atm.

They weighed Karmi on the 24th and she was 1.920kg, so I'd imagine that she was discharged yesterday weighing almost exactly 2kg (going by recent gain trend).  The socks probably add another 50g :P

Only reason I noticed is we have the same one, but in red(that massive warning message was a giveaway). Awesome system when paired with the activ3 pram. The car seat is able to clip into the pram and no need to disturb the baby unnecessarily when it's still asleep.

So just a note: There is a padded cover that goes over the clip strap(the strap that goes between the legs), it's not secured to the strap in any way. We often used to remove my lightie from the seat and it would stay stuck between his legs(especially when they get nice and chubby). So many times we would get back to the car and it was lying on the floor next to the car. It once even made it all the way into the shop before it dropped off. We eventually just stopped using it and left it in the cupboard.

Good to know!  Will pass that on.
