Crank thread repair

You need to find a LBS or engineering company with 9/16" X 20 TPI tap. Right hand and left hand. The left hand is where the problem is, not many people have such an animal.

Also depends on how bad its stripped, sometimes a cleanout with a tap will fix it enough for the pedal to tighten, If its moertoe then you need a special bushing kit ParkTool sell them.

In my opinion probably faster and cheaper to look for a new crank

That would be a right hand thread then, so not such a big trainsmash. As I mentioned above it might not be badly stripped and simply needs to be cleaned by chasing a tap through it. If the peddle still doesn't tighten then you be needing to have this done

Any self respecting LBS should have the kits and be able to repair the crank.

Hi all

I have the same problem on my left hand side Crank. The thread has stripped where you insert the pedals. Thread are completely worn since pedal has become loose. Any assistance in Jhb area.

Kind regards

So I have a tool fetish and had to do it - Little trip to Germany and while ordering stuff online I threw in some pedal saver tools - Repaired my crank - It actually works exceptionally well.

R & L reaming taps & inserts

Lining it up with old pedal shaft on drill press (Dunno why this site rotates the pic so tilt your head to the right. it is a right hand crank afterall)

I have to do the same with a pinch bolt on my left-side crank (PM) - I'm hoping a tap will fix the problem, and I don't need a heli-coil.

Is there someone in the JHB are that can assist with doing this?

Or know where I can buy a kit to do it myself? I've also managed to strip the treads on the crank
