That is unfortunately the only option left. Yesterday was just insane.

It is always like that on that mountain.. either fix it or excluded it.

Ja it was a sequence of unnecessary events.

Seems Moto on his left side had to move over because of spectators on that side so nibali had to move over to follow the move in front and seems like a fan that was in the road taking pics camera strap caught his handlebar ..

I got home yesterday, just before the start of the climb up the Alpe. What a stunning finish to the stage. Cycling was the winner here, the top GC contenders fighting for a win on one of the most iconic stages. Pity Nibs was "eliminated" by a fan, he would have added more fuel to the fire.

Just a pity the "fans" was/is so ill disciplined. They should throw each and every fool that sets of a flare, off the side of the mountain. Imagine the impact on the riders, at the limit, at high altitude and already fighting for breath, and then to inhale that pungent smoke.....  :cursing:

Thing was that by all accounts it was a relatively small crowds for the mountain because the authorities had closed surrounding roads 4 days out so you either had to hike a long way in or be up there for a while. I did think it didn't look like some of the classic climbs before but it was way more rowdy and full of selfie taking twats.

No, that was just before the barrier started.

I do not see a bike or anything there that could have caused him to crash. Something caught his right-hand ergo, causing him to fall off to the left. Similar to Armstrong's crash in 2003?

In that Twitter link posted a bit earlier, people were posting screenshots of when he went down.  It looks like a camera strap caught his handlebar.

The rumour mill is that they were discussing whether they should wait for his Nibs (Thomas was right behind Nibs when he crashed). Bardet attacked shortly thereafter which ended the discussion

Best post I have read in weeks.

Coverage from 13:20 today.. I for one hope it is a boring stage and that the breakway stay away... the guys need a bit of a easy ride today.

Sagan has said for him it is not so much counting points but staying healthy....in other words Bora aint doing the chasing today and Sagan won't chase the Intermediate points...

Remember the days when the riders would slow ride a stage in protest of things.. today is a good one for that.. but just to recover.

for me it is really up to the fans to self police.

it is always a few idiots ruining it for the majority.

we're not far off from some oke putting a stick into the rival of their fave rider's spokes.

any oke who gets too close, in the way or lets off flares should be dealt with.

in this day and age there are so many people filming everything.

ie. the dude in the polka hat who took out nibbles should be handed over straight to the cops. the video evidence can come later.

If you can show that your holiday will be ruined if you misbehave, people will stop this anti-social behaviour.

What!! Are you suggesting that people take responsibility for their own actions?? Don’t be ridiculous man, it’s not their fault that they act like morons!

chasing points...ha ha!

he is on 339, AKristoff is in second, on 129.

to catch up to sags he needs 210 more points and there is

6 realistic intermediate sprints - 120 points

3 sprint finishes - 150 points.

the only way anyone else will win this is with a combination of

I agree with the theory but mob justice is a frightening thing!

Also - self policing. You mean like the system that has been implemented so successfully right here on thehub ????. Us keyboard warriors can't self police - no chance sun burned alcohol fuelled tourists can!

Exactly..you do realise i said that he won't chase points.. he doesn't need to chase any points so the team don't need to work..recover as much as possible over the next few days.

Next he will want drivers not to run over cyclists and self police themselves!
