They get thrown around on the cobbles so a bit of both and some good luck too together with some handy bike handling skills. There's a reason you don't see the lightweights at Paris-Roubaix and they are doing a lot of sectors this stage not a few like in the past

So would riding a heavier cobbles bike not help?

Absolutely zero chance of Nairo able to gain any time on the Roubaix stage..Valverde, Landa, Nibali possibly but Nairo - nope not at all..

I said after the Roubaix stage. so all this makes even more sense to my question.

NQ is 5 mins back after the rest day, he has even more rope to bring it back

Once the cobbles are done will see who will need to chase what in the mountains.

Porte was on fire last year until he gutter balled.

that was essentially my question. you could see someone who has lost big time coming back because they aren't a big threat.

I know it's from a different era and he was a nobody but there's a TdF winner who pulled back 28mins before (thanks Jens)

Is it just some extra weight that would make the cobbles more 'manageable' or the absolute power that may go along with it?

A bit of both in my opinion. Best for cobbles is a biggish gear (which needs some power) and a relaxed body. I have a theory that taller riders have longer levers which makes for more "suspension".

He would have to lose a lot of time before they let him go up the road.. they always considered Contador a threat even at 4/5min down on GC and always kept a close eye in him... Nairo may not have the best race smarts but the guy can climb so unless he is 6min plus down I don't see him being allowed to take too much time. The only way i see him getting time is if a situation unfolds like it did at the Vuelta (2016?) another team catches Sky out and Nairo hops on their train like he did with Bert.

I’m streaming the Tour. Line speed is important to me. Today finally had fibre installed in my area. I measured 75mb down and 85 up a short while ago. Going to make my viewing far more pleasant.

25mbps needed to have seemless 4K resolution,

thus unless you are running three concurrent 4K streams, then yeah, you should be fine

I'm getting Fibre in my area very soon, gonna start off at 10mbps and then consider moving up when needed, otherwise once you start at something like 100mbps there is no going back

Streaming from DSTV. It’s much smoother than normal. In fact it looks perfect. I am actually way more concerned with upload generally. I am a photographer and send a lot of big files out to clients.

The plan for 2018 was always to focus on Cavendish and not to ride Louis in TdF.

And how is that working out so far?

Actually I like Cav. He could come good at any moment. Hope he does.

They wanted him to concentrate on some of the other Grand Tours this year, go for one win at least. So far it has not worked out as planned.
