Getting bike quotes from shops - surprisingly difficult?

I must say, it probably helped that I did not come in my KPMG cycling kit. I get the worst service in any shop when I arrive in that, except my hair dresser.

Apparently you don't have to pay cover at the #SaxonworldShebeen when you arrive in that kit.

But that is not the bike shop's doing. It is an issue with the agent/importer.

I also wanted something specific and had to wait until stock arrived. But because I was dealing with ONE shop who knew that I was serious about dealing with them, they ensured that they reserved with the agent the exact frame I wanted from the incoming consignment and kept me updated on the progress.

Had I "been shopping around" I doubt that that would have happened. And if my shop had only been allocated one frame from the consignment, I know that it would have been mine.

Agreed - I did the same - committed to the purchase up front so they weren't at risk.

If I knew exactly what bike I wanted, then I wouldn't have this issue.

Amazingly, I'm actually relying on bike shops for some advice and service. If you don't need that, good for you.

If you needed advice you would have got it from walking in and speaking to the guys in the shop. But just like many people buying cars you want to get 10 quotes and buy from the cheapest regardless of service!

you mean he would have excersized his rights in a open market?

if you get those 10 x quotes and do not horse trade with the LBS's then things are ok ........but what the op is saying is that he could not get decent service / follow up service to start with ... or this is how I am understanding it.

when I bought my last car I got numerous quotes, all were in a similar bracket and went with the better service salesman who made the effort of following up and who actually looked like he was interested in what he was doing.

What a bizarre series of responses.

The OP is still looking at different bikes but somehow he has committed treason by not committing to one shop even if that shop might not sell the bike he eventually decides on.

Part of selecting the bike is knowing how much it costs but asking for the price of different bikes so you can consider them or not is not allowed?

She liked the feel of the giant the most, although not the cheapest. Final test we weighed all 3 bikes, for a 56 the giant was lightest at 7,98kg. So she bought that one and got a helmet as well which she needed.

Love spending other people's money.

no helmet, no ride... :whistling:

nice bike
