Saddle Bags on Road Bikes: cool or uncool?

I threw my saddle bag away in the 90's. Pocpac in my jersey or spares bag in my spare cage on short rides. Just as I was coaxing my friend away from a saddle bag he goes and buys a top tube bag.

Unfriend.  <_<

No.

Professional cyclists use them.

That's their job though. Doing 6 hr rides  x 5 a week demands are different.

Oh, so in all other areas we want to look and act like them, but not saddlebags?

Do you really go around trying to act and look like a pro team? Shame.

Did you buy one of those Tinkoff replica kits that CycleLab couldn't give away?

Our legs are more shaven, our kits matches better than theirs, we will never buy something that is on special, we ride only in a perfect single file, drink only sparkling water, socks are longer and our team support cars look like a Zuma motorcade. Please dont do us the dishonour of saying we try to be like them, we are in fact substantially cooler.

No No and No

  1.

Rule #31//
Spare tubes, multi-tools and repair kits should be stored in jersey pockets.

If absolutely necessary, in a converted bidon in a cage on bike.

But those rules were written ironically.... so does that not make saddle bags acceptable?

Asking for a friend.........
