Sky not so pleased with Hinault's comments.

Team Sky Press Release:

Team Sky have today issued the following statement following comments made by Bernard Hinault regarding Chris Froome.

A Team Sky Spokesperson said:

It is disappointing that Bernard Hinault has, once again, repeated factually incorrect comments about a case he clearly does not understand.

‘His comments are irresponsible and ill-informed. Chris has not had a positive test, rather an adverse analytical finding for a prescribed asthma medication. As an ex-rider himself, Bernard will appreciate the need for fairness for each and every athlete. And at the current time, Chris is entitled to race.

‘This process would normally be confidential to protect the athlete and establish the facts. Unfortunately, it was leaked. However, both Chris and the team are following the process that has been put in place by the UCI.

‘It is clearly a difficult situation which no one wants
resolved more quickly than Chris and the team.

‘Chris and Team Sky are fully-focused on the upcoming Tour de France and won’t let these uneducated comments affect our preparation for the greatest race in the world.’

They are way to polite, even reading between the lines

“ Bernard will appreciate the need for fairness“

Way too polite, very diplomatic but with subtle hints of the irritation that must come every time they read another overblown article about this.

...but he never called for a ban on Astana after they had 4 doping busts. Some bias there imo.

ummm:

Following the confirmation of Astana’s WorldTour registration for 2015 – and, by extension, their place in the Tour de France – Bernard Hinault has called for organisers to be given greater say over which teams are allowed to participate in their races.

“I’m against the WorldTour, quite simply because it’s money that’s prioritised over everything else and there’s no opportunity for the race organisers to punish cheats,” Hinault told Cyclingnews. “If organisers had that possibility, there would be a lot fewer people out there doing stupid things. That’s what they need to change because in my opinion it’s not good at all for cycling.”

That doesn’t look like a call for riders to strike should Astana be allowed to ride?

The point was that he has been outspoken on other teams in the past.

Did someone mention a strike?

It reminds me of the fight scene in Tour de Pharmacy.......

BH is a long standing ambassador for ASO and ASO would far prefer the UCI to get lost so they can just get on with their business of cycling and getting a french winner again. UCI I think are annoying to them as they occasionally try, half heartedly, to do things like try to get them to put a meaningful womens section in all the races they own, get tv rights renegotiated so the teams get some income and stop folding, revise team numbers, increase prize money / winners purses after 6 years + of the same paltry amount.

Its not a binary thing.

The quote you responded too was: ...but he never called for a ban on Astana after they had 4 doping busts. Some bias there imo.

Big difference between "speaking out" and calling for "bans and strikes" isn't there?

He called for UCI to change the way teams are selected to ride Grand Tours, because the UCI tells the Grand Tour owners which teams are riding (because of the World Tour). His argument was that the organisers should have the power to punish teams that cheat, but at the moment their hands are tied. (Remember - Brian "Ineffective" Cookson was president at the time)

My take away is that, if ASO had the power, they would have banned Astana from the TDF.

CF out of the Tour...

Nice sensational comment without the full context and not quite factual as yet.... currently being discussed on the Tour de France thread!
