Not yet.

Wife bailed after 2 hours riding today. Says it was too hot and she had absolute nothing in her legs. I think it is also because I was not there, so her motivation was quite low. Most rider's motivation were low after yesterday.

Wife and partner finished day 3 in around 5h30. Was still very hot at places.

The finish at the hotel is a total anti-climax compared to the finish over the beach at the resort. Also, absolutely no shade for the riders the relax under. After 3 days of hot riding, they deserve some shade while enjoying a burger and a beer. And then they have to travel across Hermanus to go and have a shower? Really, the organisers must sort this out.

Also heard of complaints of no ice at water points for the riders in the last groups. Those are the riders needing the ice. Seems the organisers are dropping the ball here after the transfer of ownership.

I'm probably gonna get flamed for this comment.

I love the idea of a ladies race that is seperate from a mens race, so good on W2W.

But... progression of one group does not have to come at the cost of another. Really poor form that the guys who ended up 1st in GC (guys with full time jobs, training at 5am, and only able to make this version of the race because of work) were not even mentioned in any of the media coverage, nor was therew any podiums for them on day 1 or 2.

Keep the focus on the women, but at least mention the guys. What they did is still a hell of an achievement.

The organisers were pretty clear on their focus going in.

"In 2018 the elite women will compete in the Chardonnay event, which takes place from the 26th to the 28th of October, without any elite men or competitive Mixed category athletes on the start line. This means they will have the sole attention of the media and race entirely without interference."

You made the right decision.

A friend of mine treated a rider who was airlifted to Vergelegen on Friday...

It's pretty serious when a person needs to be airlifted....

Unless you had some supporters at the finish, you wouldn't have been able to enjoy a burger.

No 'included/complimentary' burgers for the riders at the finish as per previous years, you were able to buy one but most didn't have cash on them and bags were at the high school a fair distance away.

A bit disappointing amongst some of the other points you make mention of.

Just because they were clear about it - does not make it right.

Besides, reporting GC results and leaving out names is inaccurate. Call it ladies results then...

My point is that the ladies can (and should be) the main show without completely ignoring other competitors. It's a good idea that was poorly executed.

Yes, the only 2 complimentary burgers and chips nonsense, where last year you got for each day. Really, this is not on for a race where each rider pays about R2500 per day. You can expect the riders to be hungry at the finish.

The times I did the Sani2C Trail events there weren't any podiums. Certain there are other races as well where this is the case. I really enjoyed that because honestly if I'm attending the Adventure/Trail I don't give a %^& which no-name brand won the day when this is not the proper race.

The times I did the W2W adventure I was annoyed having to sit through podium presentation after podium presentation when again, I really didn't care which weekend warrior won and I got the distinct impression very few others at dinner cared.

You want the bragging rights, go earn them by doing the proper race. If you are not good enough to win the proper race why should we applaud you for winning something where the vast majority of the field is only there to have fun.

You're missing my point completely. Forget the podium presentations, just report accurately on the race - doesn't have to be a big deal made about it - I just don't get ignoring it completely.

Race results read differently to race reports...

And like I said, I don't wanna take anything away from the ladies race - I think it's a great concept, I just think there are a few bugs that need to be worked out. Anyway, I'm just a weekend warior that won't finish anywhere above D batch on a good day, so what do I know...

Sounds like she found cannonball on course!!

The cannonball was actually a nice guy with buckets of skill! He even gave her chocolates to say sorry (After she gave him a piece of her mind!) Not every  day you get hit by the winner of the MUNGA

Sad to say that finish venue was disappointing, but the woman racing wat great!

Kekkel&Kloek finished 3rd in there category!

You are allowed to have your opinion, even if you don't finish above D batch  :P Probably more people feel like you about this

But I have always felt the point of having a race version and an adventure version of an event is for the one to race (and make a fuss about podium winners) and the other one is for the vibe and fun and nobody (officially) cares who wins
