Should I or shouldn't I upgrade to SRAM 1x12 gx eagle

CWC currently have the 1x12 GX Eagle on sale for R4150, which is a really good price.

I currently have a SRAM NX 1x11 on my bike, and am seriously contemplating upgrading to the 1x12 GX.

Should I or shouldn't I?

No , but i think you'll do it anyway  :D

* note I've heard and seen many people have their rear gx mechs break from very small  impacts

I went from XO 1 to GX 12 and to be honest... meh... You have one more gear to play with that might make a difference in maybe 1% of your riding,

Are you happy with the range of gears you currently have or not?  If yes then don't bother, otherwise go for it.

On the odd occasion I do which for just one more gear, but then very quickly accept that I don't have it and push on.

The price makes it very tempting.

yes - because 1x11 does not have sufficient range... 2x11 or 1x12

Swapping front chainrings should be done with a derailleur not with a mechanic.

And personally I think the 1x12 gear steps are $hit since one is too low and 1 is too high and you need to spin somewhere in the middle so you tend to drop to the easier gear and just go slower or 1 cup of cement and HTFU.

So maybe no????

if you agree that it'll make maybe A 1% difference then you're not really saving X amount you're spending R4150 + whatever An XD driver costs to get an experience you can already have with your current drive train

not worth it in my opinion .....buy some new tyres/gloves/helmet/watch

Me thinks, irrelevant of asking the question.... you already made your mind up for new bling.... and just looking for some justification....

I'm not sure what state your current drive train is in (how many km has it done?), but maybe consider this upgrade as a long term replacement once your current parts wear out. You would normally still have to buy a cassette and chain anyway, which will make up a portion of the costs of purchasing the new groupset.

I'll give some positive news.

i have GX 12 speed and find it to be fantastic.

its a great option. with outstanding bang for buck value.

it works flawlessly and weighs only fractionally more than the top end kit.

as for 11s vs 12s.

the above info is likely all correct.

but make no mistake, technology is 12s now. 11s will die a slow death in the coming years.

I saw special and took it

I have being contemplating it for a while as I am due to replace my Gx 1X11 cassette and am also wanting a bigger chain ring up front for flats but need the bottom end

The increase from 42 to 50 will keep my low gear the same and bigger chain ring will improve the  flats and district roads no longer spinning out

So on a relaxed trail bike

From : 28T 10-42 to 34T 10-50

I am worried about gap between 42 and 50 but will have to see for myself ;-)

Just do it, No brainer. I just upgraded, and the beauty of it

Is the wife will never know. The bike is still black so all is still good in her world, all the while, I am now doing the Huddle Park loop like a cycling god.

also thought of "upgrading" my GX 1X11 to GX 1X12

But think that huge cassette will only add some weight to my bike ...@ Free state flats.

and currently 97% of all my rides are on road bikes ... because I am a roadie

Waste of money for a 1x12.

Buy a 28 chain ring and be done with it. And the guys saying you'll lose speed are wrong. I can do 45km/h and maintain it easily with my 28 on a 10-42. I've never run out of juice on the flats.
