Cant really agree there Mampara, if i have an initial bad experience and complain it's how that complaint is handled to my satisfaction thats important.

Just as an example of Cajees cut throat prices, I sold as customer a bike at bout R1000 below recommended retail, he liked the bike so much he wanted to buy his wife one as well, but he shopped around, He bought the exact same bike for R4000 less than he bought it from us.

The price he paid was R1000 less than my cost!

Klapperkop' date=' there should never be a "bad experience" at a shop if they are serious about business.[/quote']

Mampara, unfortuanately there are two type of business people, one for a quick sale regardless after sales service and one that has credibility amongst cyclist, one that is proud to be associated with a "good sales experience" This type of trend is accross all business here in South Africa, sadly to say.

Techguy, if you read Cajees interview in the Cycling News, Ahmed (the owner) admit that he uses "bulk buying" to get the best price to the consumer, hence why his price is probably lower than your cost on the same item. Cajees buys stock for 6 shops, hence why he possibly get "better" pricing from the wholesaler when he buys bulk?

OK, so their price is better, but can they supply "specialized" equipment at the same cut throat price, e.g. Ksyrium ES wheels, full carbon handlebars, etc?

Yip, I have to come in here and say that me to have always just had excellent service from Ibrahim and the crew in Boksburg.......

Always friendly and always willing to assist where needed. Sure they don't have the best mechanics but that to me is a minor downfall since I have my own.........

Guys keep up the good work and many happy sales for you all

Jislaaik you guys are weird!!!!! I say again.... if you buy a car you know exactly what you want colour, tyres, extras, specifications, the saleman will not even dare to cheat you. .... you WILL NOT go and buy at the most expensive place, why the hell would you do it when buying a bike.... prestige maybe???? or to please your over inflated ego????? or you would rather die than telling the other pouseurs (like you!!!) on the startline that you bought of all things at CAJEES!!!!! Woe betide me!!!!! I would not even admit to that even when injected with truth serum!!!!!! Why not spend the same time and effort with the specs of your new bike. What is so difficult checking whether it is a WHOLE Deore groupset and telling the salesman he IS CHEATING you.... did that when I bought my GARY FISHER at Solomons in Pretoria. Got the bike for the same price as advertised but with the correct wheelset. Salesmen as Salesmen they make a living out of their commission. That is the risk you take for getting a good quality bike at a cheaper price!!!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT!!!!!!

As for servicing your own bike. Parra most of us has more than one bike. Spending your R1000-00 for tools quickly nullifies the expense. And after the fifth small service and one large service on all the bikes, if you have not nullified the expense, you are prouder of your bike than your firstborn son.

Quote porky "

How did they get there - simple - they are businessmen who sell bikes and bike parts, not cyclists who are trying to be businessmen.!!"

Ya, by screwing the newcomers who don't know anything. I know, I was there. I won't even ride a bike from Cajees even If they PAY me. I actually must phone my cousin who worked for them, and show how crap their pay really is. No wonder theres no after sales service. I think he brought home R80 for a months work, Sat + Sunday. Thats like R10 a day. R1 an hr???

This discussion becomes now bigger than the chunky-gate

So, Life is all about CHOICES.

You DO have choices, you know. I know it feels like you don't have any choices when you are behind with your bills or are out of work, but you do.

You can choose what your plan of action is.

You can choose were to shop

You can choose what your priorities are.

You can choose how much you can afford to pay certain people

You can choose to do nothing or something. Granted, your options may not be very great, but you DO have a choice.

Besides, if you don't make your own choices, you will be forced into a choice and that always feels a hundred times worse than if you had just made the choice first.

Sometimes, when you are backed into a corner....when you know that you owe someone money but can't pay them right now...when you know that you are at fault for ever owing any money in the first place....you have to stand up for yourself and make some choices. If you don't do this, you are not in control of your situation. Someone else is.....your creditor, your Mom, your Boss....and why would you want someone else in control of you?

Even if you have to pick between the lesser of two evils, you still get to choose for yourself. Use that right to your best advantage.

Take control of what is going on around you. Some people have never really given themselves this option so it will be hard in the beginning.

However, once you set the wheels in motion, there will be no stopping you.

You will be in control.

If you fail, you are truly responsible; if you succeed, you are truly responsible

Cajees do sell higher specced items, if they do not have in stock they will get it.  Unlike Jokerman, i dont enjoy going to the Boksburg branch as I find the service poorer than the other branches (been to eastgate, fourways and comaro). Know what you want before you go there, my mate was sold a 2004 Giant MTB, thinking it was a 2005 model but he did get a good deal and because he spent so much on accessories, they also sold me a pair of MTB shoes at a very good price.

DR ekke weet jy is weird .... jy ry dan MTB.

Ewep as jy "specilialised" (net nie die fiets nie want daar is niks Spesialized aan hulle nie!!!!) onderdele nodig het voer dit in vanaf oorsee.... selfs met die Rand/Pond soos dit nou is, is dit goedkoper.

I think the thread was "Why is Cajees cheaper" - personal experiences are all differant, some will have great experiences there, some not - thats business - you cant please everybody.!

I think we can all agree on the reason why they are cheaper - Financially strong, run a sound business, buy in quantity at a discount price (and have the ability to pay for it) - very important!, have 6 outlets so a massive pull through, cater to the Mass Market not specialised high end lines - but of course will get it if you want it, have a sound retail knowledge - they know what sells and thats what they concentrate on.

Personally I dont care where I buy, I am not interested in becoming the salesmans best friend, I dont need him to run up to me and greet me like he is, and I have no interest in hanging around cycle shops for hours on end in the hope of been seen.

A shop is a place where I buy something, to me its simple, I buy at the most convenient shop at the time who has the stock I am looking for.

Its quite amazing to read these posts and see how inconsistent the service is from Cajees - I've only ever bought small things from them and the service was never anything to write home about, but I didn't need it for what I wanted so I reckon its okay.............. much better than Sportsmans Warehouse!!

I think cajees cater for the masses as is said before.

Probably doing more to make cycling more accessesable to everyone.

If someone go and buy a entry level bike to start training or getting fit they don't care or know that the bike need to be serviced. They want the cheapest bike they can get. The LBS's are only interested in getting high end stuff out on the market. I know a guy that decided to start cycling and went to a LBS to get an entry level bike, they told him such a lot of sh@t that he walked out there R 15 000 later. Cycled for 3 months and did not liked it. If some one by a bike at Cajees and then go to a LBS to do a srvice and proper setup and they don't like that stuff them too as they charge for it anyway.
