YETI bikes, disgusting corporate behaviour

This will probably get me some hat8jg but I don't think this is a bad thing for Yeti. Colin and the boys were su0er passionate but in 12 years they didn't exactly set SA on fire with Yeti. They created a loyal following (as can be seen from some posters here) but judging by the number of Yetis rolling in the various training groups and races I saw Morningside did not move a truck load of bikes.

NSquared has other brands on board, a national reach and deeper pockets for marketing and such.

I guess this is part of the maturing process that the SA bike industry is going through. Sad for the "little guys" and passionate independents but good for the market in the long run.

Totally agree with this.

I think this change was long overdue... Yeti is a great brand and hopefully the new distributor will give the Tribe a new deserved fresh start in SA.

I've just had long discussion with someone closer to the story and all is not what it seems. Far from it and like I said earlier there are three sides to any story (really wish that one day I'll be able to hear the third)

NSQUAREDZA, in retrospect, my first reply to you was emotive and childish, apologies for that. This thread was never intended for or directed towards you, I was disappointed with how Yeti handled the situation (and still am)

Can I ask the moderators to either lock or delete this thread as I dont think there's any point in continuing with this as its just hearsay and speculation.

I ride a Yeti and I think having a bigger footprint is not a bad idea,

I purchased my bike from Colin and Jared and I have always had a good relationship with them, especially Jared who as always helped me with technical concerns or product advice.

They are however very involved in there bike touring company and I am sure it will get bigger and bigger, and I wish them great success their

Before the thread is locked or deleted, lets all take note of the constructive lessons which it has proffered , which I am pleased to see that the OP has indeed taken on board tonight:

1. Never lift your pen in anger! It invariably comes back to bite you once the anger has dissipated.

2. What applies to the pen applies 100 fold to the keyboard, and a thousand fold to a public post on an internet forum. Once its in the cloud, its indelible.

3. If your’e determined to trash a brand or a person online, make damned sure you can back up what you have said with facts which fall within the ambit of truth and public benefit, and if you don’t understand these concepts - stay silent.

This applies as much to email as it does to twitter / FB or bikehub. Once you hit the send button, its destination is totally out of your control.

Always be measured and circumspect. When in doubt, hit cancel.

Penny Sparrow’s 140 character rant was life altering. Not in a good way.

And nobody ever has a god given right to an ever-green contract. All good (and bad) things come to an end. The trick is to preserve what you have, while you can.

This is one of the best lessons Harry had tought me a few years ago. Most people negotiate the POSITIVE side of contracts, ignoring the possible negatives.

Harry showed me how the negatives are the ones that need the most attention.

Completely agreed.

Sometimes the little guys need to step up or get passed.

Hi

Unfortunately I think this is just American corporate culture. In 1996 the same thing happened to me by a wakeboard company in the US, established their brand for them from scratch and they ditched me for the promise of more money, I didn't even get a 3 line e-mail.

If you going to deal with a US company make sure you have a water tight distribution contract with them, suing them would cost a fortune if they breach but at least its a barrier to exit.

This thread took a Yeti and made it abominable without any real evidence. Is there such a thing as a snowman argument?

Like bigfoot, there seems to be a lot of talk about these bikes, but do you  actually ever see them?

This thread has a distinctly millennial flavour to it.  Makes me crave an avo toasty and fills me with entitled self righteousness. I can feel a facebook profile update coming on!

It more like;

Can mods please lock this thread coz I acted like a total douche because I'm actually more upset that I won't be able to get nice discounts on my future bicycle purchases.

santa cruz moved to cycle lab, after years of having its brand grown by boutique store owners. i am sure many smaller shop owners are PISSED off.

Bottom line is if you dont have exclusivity rights or own the brand for SA you are always at risk of losing agency or having a neighbour store stock same product.

this is not the 1st time and will not be the last.

this thread should never even have started. its unfair to the new distributor, as cool as the previous distributor was they did not leverage the brand sufficiently.

you want niched, go buy a bespoke bike made to order (probably by a subsidiary of Giant)
