Creaking sound...

Getting a creaking sound as I am cycling, originally it sounded like it was coming from front suspension, but when I stop, and depress the suspension, both front and back, I hear nothing. So it seems that it is only when I am pedaling... what could possible be the problem...

It was fine, until I lifted the seat ... I assume that I have a better pedal stroke because the seat was too low... but boy... the constant creaking sound is going to drive me to drink...

any thoughts or suggestions

I say leave it and keep drinking

The first, and easiest check: Does it creak when seated and stop when standing?

My Thought process too...

All of a sudden, when pedaling, I hear this constant "ting" sound. It almost sounds like something rubbing against the rear rotor, but when I stop and rotate the wheel, nothing.

LBS insists because the Camber has a 200mm rotor, that causes it to flex, resulting in the "ting".

I don't buy it. Sounds like typical techie "Idontcaretolook" BS. It's driving me nuts.

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

As for the OP, I had a creak in my seat tube once. I pulled it and cleaned the tube (both of them) properly. I did not grease it, as I was not clued up to that bit, but nevertheless, I had no more creaking thereafter.

Take the offending rotor off and then pedal around the block and see if the noise is gone - more than likely not (I also don't buy that BS from the LBS).

So the my creaking sound seems to come from the crank or when I pedal... When I stand and pedal, it doesn't creak, nor if I bounce the suspension while standing... Only when I pedal.... Bearings?

Is it a carbon crank, my sram crank was also creaking and it turned out to be the carbon from the crank arm separating from the aluminium/metal part. Sram did give a warranty replacement.

You don't necessarily need to replace bearings unless old, rusted or heavily used.

My nearly new bike's BB bearings were almost dry (grease had hardened).

Prise off dust seal and fresh grease.

It might be a spoke tinging on the brake caliper. This will probably only happen when on the bike due to the stresses being exerted downwards causing flex in the spokes.

So take the rear caliper off and pedal around. If it is that, use some 1mm washers to move the rotor away from the hub and reposition the caliper. It should solve it.

Good luck

Ok, will have a closer look tomorrow, have the SRAM XX1

Ok, So did another ride, eish... still creaking. Bought some carbon paste for seat post... Still creaking. The rhythm of the creak was weird, did make sense that it was coming from the crank... it was if it was coming from the back suspension, but only when I pedaled up hill....

Found the offending mother... Back wheel skewer... It need a little tightening, and the creak vanished... So made sense, as I was applying stress to the cassette and suspension, it created its rhythm...

But, will do a proper test this weekend coming....

Remove seat post, clean post and frame, grease and put back.

With the seatpost it will sound like it's coming from all over the place as it reverberates through the frame.

Glad you found it.
