One comment on all the ladies lining up on the start grid...

They all have what seems to be (might be camera faces) a great attitude towards each other,

G

Its because most of them have been partners with each other in previous races.

Scott already had to get a wheel from their support team....

Seems like Philip Buys aand Gert Heyman are feeling frisky.

@KrossRacingTeam claim yet another @DiDataMEA Hotspot. @PygaEuroSteel is 30 seconds back, followed by @scottmtbracing (+50secs) and then @FactoryRacing @TeamBulls @trek_sanmarco & SpecializedFoundationNAD all together at +1:40. #EpicMen

I know of a lot and I mean a lot of Road Pros that can change a tubby on a training ride and carry on going.

Amazing MTB's can't even get a tyre off a rim.....

Training ride.... And race situation a bit different scenario tho

Let’s see Sagan (sorry Gen) or any other road pro fit a tube during a stage race.... putting a pre prepared tubby on is easy but I suspect we would see a lot more bike throwing if the roadies had to do this..... plus carry their own spares

No way.. he'll park his bike in the bush..not their jobs and that is why they pay mechanics to do it in a race.

Risk vs reward in mtb.. light gear is that risk they take... their jobs are still to pedal and race.. sometimes mechanicals happen sometimes they don't... sometimes they are easy to fix sometimes they struggle..this is what happens.. in the end of the day they will be in yellow again..just made it a bit exciting for a day.[emoji6]

Pretty sure they would've fix it eventually like most of you guys.. but they would've lost 30min...race situation yep.. completely different..

I'm gonna assume the live tracking isn't so live? It shows Scott already having a 5.2km lead over Cannondale. I know Fumic had a washout early in the stage and Scott's lead on the stage grew to around 1min15sec, but they pulled it back to around 1min what I last heard.

Scott SRAM could'nt get the tyre off simply because they didn't have a tyre lever. Somehow it had been omitted from their prerace tool kit. |*Snip

Can you please tell me how a tyre lever would help if you can not even get a space to insert it? Look at the clip they both tried to "unbead" the tyre so the rubber was right against the rim and no space to put a tyre lever in.

Not wanting to start a fight, just honestly asking, as the way I see it they did not even got to the part where you would need a tyre lever.

"Locked front suspension after crash" .... would it be safer to have two front suspension stanchions instead of one, so that you dont have to lock it after a crash?   :whistling:

If you watch dh again. Have a look at the tyres. They be goin FASSSST... And they all opt for the the thickest burliest casings they are able to spin up to speed. IMO the reason epic riders ride toilet paper thin tyres is because the riders themselves are that good and its a bit of all or nothing. Rather keep up with the bunch with low rotational weight and higher chances for puncture. Puncture stats are prob around 15%. Getting dropped from the bunch due to high rotational weight is 100% (at that level).

I watch a lot of DH and had a DH bike a while ago. The requirements are different. The terrain is deliberately more rough, the bikes are 40% heavier with longer travel.

And the additional weight is handy anyway. They run the tyres as soft as possible since the tyres are thick enough to provide some of the support for the weight of the rider and bike.

Yet they still puncture a lot and roll tyres off the rim....so the thicker heavier tyres isn't adding any reliability

Fit a more "aggressive" tyre to a XCO?XCM race bike and its  not going to give more resistance to cuts, punctures etc since the main contributor to the failures is the speed and angle at which penetrants beat the casing.

Nino and Lars are also using a foam insert inside the tyre. I reckon that was a significant factor in their inability to get the tyre off the rim.

Thats because of the foam insert inside the tyre.

Safer is for the nervous

Putting a 'pre prepared' on may be easy but taking the old one off. Now there's a job my friend!

Trust me I've done it a few times lately, long story why ...

How does having a tyre lever help then? I was just looking at the backup Scott team and how much he had to fight the tyre now to get the seal to break and he is not using a tyre lever yet either?
