New chain making griding noise

Ok, i normally replace my chain approx every 800km or before my chain checker gets to 0,75. My rule of thumb is 2 chains on a cassette, and 2 cassettes to a blade (in front).

So ive changed my 2nd chain on a cassette/blade combination. But now it makes a griding noise, but only when i stand on the pedals and put some pressure on. Does this mean i need to change chain, cluster and blade? Chain checker is approx 0,60 and there is no skipping on my gears.

The local bikeshop said couple of weeks ago that my chain just need to adjust to the rest but its been 3 weeks and 250km later and still no change.

Any advice? I can change the chain and cassette myself but not the blade, that has to be done at a bikeshop.

first of all check the pulleys on your rear mech , if hey are NW they might need to be rotated slightly to hug the chain right.

next check if the chain if flipped , i.e. running backwards ( yes its possible on some chains )

Can you give a bit more info please...

It sounds like you are running a 1x setup?

- what drivetrain components?

- what chain?

- can you try and identify where the sound is coming from? (More to the front/rear?)

I’ve seen issues with derailleur wheels that are worn/loose, or worn BB, that allows some lateral movement - especially under heavy load...

I have exactly the same issue. Replaced cassette and chain last week and now the grinding noise. I remember i had it before when doing this but can't remember if i changed something or just waited it out.

I am going to wait it out now and hopefully it goes away.

Your lbs must like you lots. I am on arround 2500km with GX Eagle and chain shows no wear.

Hi. I have the same issue... Running a 1x10 with a xt cassette and kalbo 32 front chain ring. Chain checker indicated that chain was worn so I removed old chain and put on new. Had a grinding noise... Tried new chain, no change. Tried new cassette, no change. Tried used kalbo 34 chain ring, no change. Going to order a new rapide chain ring, hopefully that sorts out the problem!

I'm with you one that one. There's no way's your chain should only last 800kms unless you riding in beach sand or your name is André Greipel.

I would recommend SRAM or KMC chains and unfortunately it sounds like your chaining or cassette is worn thus they are not meshing correctly.

If it's the same problem I had on two bikes welcome to the world of xt 1x11. It took me months of frustration and lots of money on the one bike only to find out that the problem was me and cleaning the bike wrong. My problem was the chain had to be clean all the time. I was washing the dirt into the chain between the bush and pin of the links. New lube could not get in and trapped the dirt in there causing the the worst grinding sound you could think of. Now I only clean the chain when I start to get chain suck from all the old lube and dirt. After that it's a few rides of grinding till the new lube works into the chain pins and bushes.

If it's 1x your chainring is worn - that grinding noise you're hearing is chainsuck.

both my 1x have started 'grinding' :(

I am not saying it can't be worn components, problem is you have to try and figure out where it's coming from. It's just a mission when you are on the bike as it sounds like from everywhere. The chain and the chain ring are the cheapest option when starting to replace parts. Then the guide and tension pully's on the dr. After that it can only be rear cassette or bb. Mission
