Anyone lost TOO MUCH weight? Time to build it back up a bit.

I wrote a post some time back about cutting down on sugar intake.

Got lots of feedback & support from fellow hubbers and eventually I did achieve what I was aiming for - my sugar intake is now a fraction of what it was :-)

My reason for cutting down was "general health" rather than weight loss, but naturally once the sugar intake decreased, so did my weight. Happy days.

I'm 5'10" tall (178cm) and at my heaviest I was 89.99kg (too many big meals out when living in SA!). I now find my self hovering around 78kg. I think this weight is about right for me. It "feels" right, my clothes fit nicely and certainly I'm climbing these Pyrenean mountains better on the bike now that I'm 12 kg lighter.

Next step is to take a look at my food intake and start doing some specific exercises with a view building up some muscle mass. I want to be lean, not thin . . . .

If anyone on here, who's "middle aged", has been through the same thing I'd be interested to hear what you did and how it went. . . .

Cheers.

Make sure you are eating enough complex carbohydrates.

If you are not then your body will break down any incoming protein and existing muscle to manufacture carbohydrates which are critical for your survival (hypoglycaemia).

I'm 6'2" / 188cm and am just over 60kg after Gastro 2 weeks ago where I lost 2kg in 6 hours.

Normally about 62kg and eat 5 big meals a day  genetics and a nitro-meth metabolism means I am destined to a bean pole. I have tried everything under the sun short of the dodgy stuff, my body just laughs it off.

78kg is a decent weight for your height. Unless you have a naturally stocky body type, you could maybe even shave another few kilos off over the coming months.

Maximise (a variety of) fruits, veg, legumes, grains, nuts and seeds and minimise animal products and processed foods and you should be golden.

I cut the carbs and lost about 15kg over 3 years.

My weight has now stabilised for the last 6 months on its own at a BMI of about 22.5 .

I think once you have burnt your excess fat on a low carb lifestyle nature sorts it out without  you having to change anything, as long as you stay low carb.

My plan was to stabilise at 73-75kg. I have stabilised at  2 kg above the plan.

No not true, carbohydrates are not needed in the human  diet. Lots of people have lived for many years without any carbohydrates in the diet and with zero negative side effects.

Watch the video " Cereal Killers 2 " to see how two endurance athletes rowed across the Pacific on only moderate protein and high fat (up to 5000 calories/day), and ended up weighting the same at the end of almost 3 months of effort - only shifting muscle from the legs to the upper body where it was needed.

<snip>

You've got some research to back up that bold claim?

Out of interest, what does an average day's meals look like in your diet?

You may want to read up on what hypoglycaemia is.

Hint, if your blood sugar drops below a certain point you die.

This is because your brain REQUIRES glucose or lactate as it's primary fuel source.
