Slight correction - I dont always obey "Full Vegan" - Sometimes its tough when travelling etc.

 

Its really tuff when traveling because you can't always find fresh stuff. And you can't do takeaways. My moms boyfriend (I converted him to our cult) travels a lot so now we pack him a lot of pre made lunches in a coolerbag. When he doesn't have any food left he has to survive on bread, tofu and oats.

why do you feel the need to have a shake?

I can really do without it. I'm not as keen with cycling as I was last year, my brother did track and road and used supplements as he was training 21 hours a week last year.

 

I want to do more weight lifting and build muscle. I do feel that a shake can give anyone a bit of a boost but is totally unnecessary. I don't even take a full serving as I easily 'eat' 50grams of protein per day without the shake.

I agree, but it will always be debated. To me many have this idea in their mind that supplements help.

 

In my 10 years+ experience of training the only supplement which really helped with performance was Creatine Monohydrate used with dextrose. All the rest is personal preferance but had no impact.

I may eat some dairy once a month or so if it cant be avoided. Or sometimes something I eat has mayo on it and i have no other options.

 

I am lucky though here in NZ - we have a grocery delivery service that was started by a masterchef winner. Basically, they deliver all the raw materials for your family dinners and a recipe and its all plant based.

Yeah fair enough, I was meaning it from a perspective of you get enough protein and look after your health.

Being a full on vegan is a step too far for me at this point.

Im vegetarian but I still consume eggs and dairy. I have been to the farms where both the eggs and dairy are produced and the animals have a truly free range, happy life.

 

I think as long as I can control the non-vegan aspects of my diet then Im still ok with being a vegetarian.
