Was a catering company. Didn't bother to take a pic. Nothing ever comes of it

Smile and wave if you're not KO'd... though it's tempting to give a good squirt of carbohydrate stickiness all over their dash.

To be fair, sending a mail or calling the company to inform them of the incident will at least let them know. You never know where it goes, but that's not our worry I guess.

on topic: I really hope that some justice is served here. I ride or drive that road daily, and that's not ayoba at all. I've seen some horrendous skidmarks on the shoulders that are truly scary for a cyclist

Strongs to the rider.

Few years back I had a bad encounter with an agro truck driver ....  Got the company number and phoned the owner.  The owner tried to appologise, but I explained that the only reason I called was that HE (the owner) would have a damaged truck if the driver keeps on driving like that, and that I thought it best to give him a heads up to protect his asset .... He went quiet, then thanked me ....  Company owners certainly dont want property damaged, or abused, most also dont want their brand image tarnished ....

I have it on very good authority that you should phone Alan Winde's office at the western Cape province offices.

Also, hit him up on Twitter immediately with the information. He has been promoting cycling in the Western Cape and I have confidence he will ensure this is being investigated

I read a news article in the last week about new changes to the current road traffic laws in the Western Cape. Alan Winde was behind it. Some (most) had to do with vehicle impounding / DUI / unroadworthy vehicles. What caught my attention was a mention of amendments to make cycling safer. It did not specify what exactly, but suffice to say Mr. Winde is a known supporter of cycling, and supossedly is a kean rider himself. I will be eager to see what is planned.

tour buses and delivery vehicles seem to be pretty brazen about their attitude toward cyclists.

I caught a delviery driver with his window down after he gave me a near kiss of death on Friday morning in Hout Bay and asked him "what about giving me the 1m?!"

His response:""My boss doesn't pay me to be nice to people who don't belong on the road you N8*&^!" followed by some more choice Cape Town adjectives.

So much anger and so little regard for others and the law.

Where do so many people get this notion from that cyclists don't belong on the roads?

How do you change or educate?

A grey Mercedes van with registration number (we have the registration details) was driving erratically along the coastal road and when passing the cyclist, it veered into him even though he was riding in the large verge area inside the yellow line and well off the road lane. The cyclist was knocked off his bike and went head over heels and the Mercedes van carried on driving without stopping. I followed the van to get the registration number. I the returned to the scene of the accident and helped the downed rider who was taken to hospital by another motorist. The cyclist is current waiting to have e-rays at a hospital. There are a number of witnesses and we are committed to tracing the driver of this vehicle and bringing him/her to book. There were loads of people and cyclists who stopped to help which was wonderful to see.

The cyclist is training for his 38th CTCT (Argus) and is very concerned that he won't be able to ride.

Let's hope it's nothing serious and he is back on his bike soon.

Good on you for following said driver and returning to assist at the scene of the accident.

Takes a lot of effort and time out of your day too.

As much as I want to agree with you someone did mention that we should always try. I think this is where Social Media comes to play. If you phone or email the person on the other end could be scrolling through stuff on their phone and just saying whatever you want to hear but if it's in the public eye then it's a bit different, they have to think of a structured apology....

Now that I'm saying this maybe I should hit Citi Sprint up, one of their drives (apparently known to drive like a "afrikaans box") up and down the M5 was driving like a complete **** behind my missus. I phoned them while I was in the car but again nothing came of it....

A marketing campaign, billboards, flyers etc. But it costs some serious cash.

What these retards don't understand is that more cyclists = less traffic....

Ya I agree I should have phoned. I think I'm becoming desensitized because it happens so often its the norm.

Alan Winde is proposing introducing motorist laibility into the Western Cape By-law. this wil hand laibility to the driver/operator of any motorvehicle, commercial or private in the event of MVA involving pedestrians and cyclists. This was discussed a few weeks back on Heart FM

Much easier way: educate the kids! Should form part of our education system, also to think about environmental and social issues. Our kids become our biggest activists, oftentimes teaching, or sensitising, the parents. I have a the sense our older generations (30 and older) did not spend much time on these subjects.....just IMO. Don't shoot me for that generalisation.

Yes, it is a long approach - but I feel advertising campaigns don't change behaviour much. It is so entrenched and doesn't do much to convince within a conversational context. Being "woke" is something that takes time....and we all know how most ppl are resistant to change

That is how ze Germans do it.  4th Grade they do a bicycle drivings license which also teaches general road rules and behaviour

I like this idea, I think it will work wonders. I know when I was at school we used to get a visit from the "Spiet Kop" who came  to talk to us about crossing roads safely looking out for this and that...

It's very clear that this no longer happens based on the behaviour of some high school kids (grates me when they walk through the cars) and they wonder why motorbikes and cyclists almost take them out then they walk through the cars. Also pedestrian crossings, why are people scared to use them? I'm not allowed to say "stupid" when my daughters are in the car but again this morning I saw a STUPID dad crossing the road (main rd nogals) and then I have to stop to let them through, even though there's a traffic light with a magical button that if you press it will stop all the traffic for you and let you cross safely less than 50 meters from where STUPID man and his poor daughter was crossing. I couldn't say a damn thing cause the girl is in my daughters class.

So a colleague of mine was regaling a tale earlier this week, of him having to sit behind two riders going up Franschhoek pass last weekend. He says he, and a string of cars behind him, were stuck behind these two morons, as he put it, for quite some time, since no one could pass, and the cyclists were happy to just sit there and keep everyone behind them stewing.

He considered waiting at the top after managing to pass them, and "klapping" the okes off their bikes before tossing said bikes over the edge.

He is a motorcyclist...

I declined to comment.

Perception. It's a thing.

I don't think this will work in SA. Just look at how poor "Arrive Alive" perform. Drinking and driving and speeding over the festive season should be stupid, because you know somewhere someone is going to check on you, but they still do it because nothing serious happens to them
