Would he have gotten time off if there was a supplier involved and he named them...or is his sanction based on his age and substance?

Just been called now and there is more to this.

Not getting into it but maybe he or they will comment at some stage, however he is responsible for the situation he is in.

Maybe money from parents like pocket money etc.

But you never know and unless he or his folks say otherwise its speculation on how he got it.

Yes, its speculation.

Just interesting with POCA, if not prescription obtained then the purchase could be deemed in contravention of this Act.  Interesting to see if Hawks start investigating cases like this as will be easy to trace with bank records etc.

Then its no longer a suspension from riding bikes, its court cases and criminal record.

you can buy coke and e at a party or on the street , performance drugs in cycling are a bit more difficult to procure so someone close is obviously helping out  pathetic to see a juniour doping (its pathetic to see a senior also but junior is worse)

Yeah, I used to be into the bodybuilding scene in high school and varsity - haven't indulged in the illegal stuff myself, but it was readily available if you just ask around. And I am not just speaking about the gym rat stuff, the athletics guys, swimmers, cyclists, etc also got their fix quite easily.

So sad to see - but the fact that he is a junior using does not indict his parents....

Agreed, but his parents had to pay for it. Nobody hands them out for free or in exchange for "exposure".

Sell something here and there... not too hard to get your hands on dirty money as a teen if you really want it.

Obviously his parents could be involved, but teenagers are dodgy characters at the best of times haha they do things under their parent's noses all the time.

Not many realise if its a restricted drug that you can go to jail for step 6.

Internationally, it is not a controlled substance. It is often used in veterinary medicine.

Its also VERY easy to get hold of, and fairly cheap.

Many people recommend it to prevent cramping and ‘muscle fatigue’.

It wouldn’t be my first choice, if I wanted to cheat, and I suspect there may have been some ‘accidental’ exposure. But the onus still lies with the individual.

You can buy almost anything online, as mentioned go to a gym etc etc.

Everything is available online

Even Mary Jane delivered by courier to your door anywhere in SA so I'm sure a few paltry performance enhancing drugs are a piece of old takkie

So is crude oil.

Would think you would have to consume a hell of a lot of toothpaste to pop a positive though.

No definitely not. I personally don't get involved with youth athletes and when I do its after a long process on why, when, who and and and.

Good to hear..

read this in a satiric magazine  it's too funny :

Fontenay-le-Comte (dpo) - What a sporting achievement! Austrian cycling pro Fritz Gauhuber (27) is the only
undoped rider to complete the 201 kilometer first stage of the Tour de France. He is thus only ten days behind the peloton. Gauhuber, who initially collapsed completely exhausted and had to be treated medically, is now on the road to recovery.

"I am very proud of my performance, for which I have been training hard for years," said the athlete a few hours later, still completely out of breath and shaken by convulsions. "Many say that it is impossible to get through the Tour de France without any doping, and I can tell all of them that at least the first of 21 stages is quite possible.

Still completely exhausted from the 201 km: Gauhuber, who drives without sponsors, because no one wants to support a loser, also reports how hard the tour can be without doping: "At the sections where normally doped riders sprint for the mountain classification, it was sometimes so steep that I sometimes had to push my bike. Of course, this is really good on the calves, "said the fair athlete. In return,
however, he had much more time to enjoy the beautiful landscape.

As soon as Gauhuber, who after all received the so-called "clean jersey" for his services, has recovered completely, he wants to make the second leg from Mouilleron-Saint-Germain to La Roche-sur-Yon (182.5 km). Presumably, the race is over for the rest of the riders - either because they've tested positive for doping or because they have reached their destination after 3535 kilometers.

Performance enhancing drugs are readily and easily available in SA...I'm talking order online and have them delivered next day.

I used many stupid substances over the years for body building. I don't use anymore but a few years ago went searching online for stuff like melatonin and 5HTP which you now need scripts for in SA. The site I order these from sells everything under the sun when it comes to performance drugs.

As I say I used steroids and many many class A drugs in my youth and it really shocked me just what is available and how easy it is to get online.

Doping programs are not as complex as many people think and easily available. Simple blood tests can be done at doctor or clinic and I'm pretty sure without parents needing to be involved.

Cost of the drugs are not high, they can be ordered online, programs and structure available online, simple blood tests available... parents would never know or even need to be involved.

My point is it is a lot easier then many think to go down this road and I can assure you many many cyclists in SA are using something not found at Clicks to get some improvement.

Biggest danger these days is not the drugs or even getting the drugs, it's timing the detection period so you stay under the radar.
