For sure. But I think that the eversting calculator is using bad data. Little "spikes" in the digital record of the climb that don't actually exist in reality. eg: the one of the spikes shown below goes up about 50m over a distance of 200m. That's a 25% gradient. I've ridden bainskloof and those are not there. Also, I don't think it is humanly possibly to ride 25% (over 200m).

So (and I mean no disrespect) those were free meters. Again, a monstrous effort. Respect. I don't think I can do anything for over 24 hours; be it ride, sleep, fish. Procrastinate - maybe.

Those "shark tooth" remind me of cycling up Swartberg pass.

Grinding up an 8% gradient is tough enough ... but then you get to a stretch where they added "cross cuts" to the road to direct rain water.  Thus you would cycle up 8%, then a short steep 12%, then for a few pedal strokes dip down half a meter, then 8% ... and just as you get your rythm back it would be 12% up, down half a meter, 8% up ....  Not being able to settle into a rythm was the worst part of it.

But this was just a 500m climb ....

HOW do you do 14 of these back to back ?

RESPECT FRAIL !!

Round two will be better.  You're more prepared now and know what to expect.  You also know what's needed in terms of a hill and what you need yourself during the attempt.

I can only imagine how bad it must be feeling right now, but it's a learning experience and miles in the bank which will see you sailing through the next one!

I'm excited to see which hill you choose.

As mentioned before speak to someone that has done it before and there would be no surprises. If you are not doing it for fun then you need to prepare properly and NOT use a mobile device to track.

Next time, as mentioned before speak to Wimpie, he has done Bains and many other everests including pompstasie.

If it was me I would have just grabbed his strava segment and loaded it and be done. I believe all his times should be less than 24hrs as well.

I also recall somewhere that a hill can only be everested once, but I may be wrong. Wimpie has dome many more than once.
