Hello Billygoat

When you record on the Strava App, you can not adjust the Elevation. Only the Distance.

I have received confirmation that my attempt was Short.

Bummer, but you did what very few of us will dare attempt.

Round two will be better.  You're more prepared now and know what to expect.  You also know what's needed in terms of a hill and what you need yourself during the attempt.

I can only imagine how bad it must be feeling right now, but it's a learning experience and miles in the bank which will see you sailing through the next one!

I'm excited to see which hill you choose.

As mentioned before speak to someone that has done it before and there would be no surprises. If you are not doing it for fun then you need to prepare properly and NOT use a mobile device to track.

Next time, as mentioned before speak to Wimpie, he has done Bains and many other everests including pompstasie.

If it was me I would have just grabbed his strava segment and loaded it and be done. I believe all his times should be less than 24hrs as well.

I also recall somewhere that a hill can only be everested once, but I may be wrong. Wimpie has dome many more than once.

Next time don’t use the phone app to record. Please use a garmin or even better use two

This may be a challenge in itself .... he would need a device with more than 24 hours battery life ...

As someone who is half-thinking of exploring an Everest, this thread and the thread covering Paul vZ's attempt has been v useful. Many valuable learnings related to preparation. There's also a lot of useful info on the everest website and elsewhere on devices, battery life etc.

Maybe I can dream a little longer...

Most of them charge very quickly so can you not give it a quick charge while you rest? I've never tried but it might stop recording if you do that - just an idea.

most if the newer edge units, can charge while using the device

the older units (500) needed an OTG cable hack otherwise it would switch off as soon as the charging cable is connected.

Garmins reset when put on charge but you can get an on-the-fly charging cable cable and use a powerbank.

But that is even more weight to lug up Everest ....

Would it be acceptable to use 2 different units?  Record with one while the other is on charge, swop out and your backup team loads to the cloud and charge again ....
