Garmin versus Huawei

Huawei's are known to be a bit of a pain in the arse with bluetooth connectivity.

My wife uses Garmin connect with a P10 Lite and it does work (not always first time) but does eventually get going. I use Polar Flow and it sometimes requires a restart with of the phone or another sync after my session doesn't pull through.

I don't want to ask this but you have tried to uninstall and reinstall just to make sure...

Sorry for the hi-jack, how you guys finding your P10 lite batteries ... 1 and a bit years in and it can show 40%, then a few moments later just drop down to 0% and switch off!

Myself and the missus charge once a day, even if I'm using bluetooth in the car. what I do find is if I've been whatsapping alot for the day it draws alot of battery power. Do you do a wall charge/USB charge or car charge?

I feel your pain. The decay to 40% is nice and slow and predictable, but from there it just snowballs.

Especially from 20% downward it tends to be 10 seconds to decay with 1%.

A fix for me in emergency situations where there is no charger in sight is to switch to the Ultra Battery saver profile, it keeps it alive in case I need to phone friends or family.

I am tempted to buy the replacement battery and just do the replacement, which should give me another 1.5 years of use. Performance wise it is still good enough.

I'll then migrate to the P20 Lite once that battery dies, benefiting from going to the next model compared to the one I am on, but being about two generations behind the latest release.

Also heard of issues with the Strava app on Hauwie phone's where it stops recording mid ride, never had an issue with Samsung.

This thread is getting lost in the Google discussion... But... When I switched phones I had to go deep into the Garmin forums to get the answer... And even then the answer was deep within a thread.. Let me see if I can find it in my history.

Edit.. So Garmin updated their forums and the links in my history no longer work (pretty typical with Garmin IT from what I've learnt over the time)

Anyway.. Head to the forums and search for Android pairing issues. From what I remember I had to remove the link to the old phone from my existing connect app and then re add it to the app on the new phone.. Or something like that

It's a Garmin issue.. Not specific to a phone. I.e it happens with all phones when you change

P.s.s. it has nothing to do with Bluetooth version.. But you've probably already been down that path

Another thing that I remember when I had issues with the P10 Lite and Garmin Fenix 3 keeping connection is that the phone keeps on killing Apps and connections in the background to extend battery life. So you need to ensure that Garmin Connect is Running and allowed to run in the background.

I had this problem with Strava ... took some time to figure out and resolve.

- US cannot use Huawei to spy like they use Cisco and Qualcomm to spy

or maybe both.

That is the scary part of modern network equipment.

There are 2 and a half kernels between the bare metal and OS, what goes on in those kernels is mostly a mystery...

Ditto, I had the same issue with the P10 lite, was otherwise a good phone until the battery issues started after about 12 months - in addition to the price, I liked the dual sim support.

The battery issue left me stranded once - I couldn't call my return Uber . I upgraded to the P30 lite recently, well worth it - much better camera, fast charging, more storage, generally everything is better and bluetooth plays nice with Garmin and everything else. However - now with this Google story

p30 lite last week. camera is mindblowingly insane for the price.

bit worrying now, though. wonder if CPA 7 days return can still cut it?

Unfortunately so, same here. I can't help but think that it's another round of "china fear" doing hte rounds.

It's okay if we spy on you, but you can't do anything that we think looks even remotely like monitoring and collecting info, which is what we do all the time but that's not the same thing....

The American multinationals (FAANG etc) are keen to spy on individuals. The Chinese multinationals *might* be keen to spy on western governments. But there's no evidence of that - more like competitive FUD, something the tech industry is notorious for.
