LOL at the Cape Epic die hards.    Absolutely hilarious.  I have a colleague that is bef0k for the Epic, literally in his world there is nothing and no logic that can compare to the damn event.

And good for him.  He sweats on a Watt Bike 5 days a week and does a ride with a bunch of people who's sole goal on weekends is to out dick-swing each other on climbs.  Kinda weird.

My other group of riding buddies go out to ride.  For a quarter of the cash they dragged me to Morzine, I also enjoyed S2C with a bunch of guys who had the same "lets enjoy riding our bikes" mindset, and I've lugged my bike in the EVOC bag around a fair bit this year enjoying riding with friends on different trails.   A much better way to spend the cash in my opinion, and hell, I even had a "baby" stage race in there.

I'd never justify the cash for the Epic when there is simply so so so so much more I can do with the same money.  Next year is Morzine, Whistler and Rotorua, and I can assure all those puffer wearing, Garmin lovin Epic riders no matter how life changing the Epic is, it'll never match that trifecta with good buddies.

There is a certain irony in explaining to JW how certain races are world class and which races draw "the best of the best" Professionals..

Oh, and paying your 45k allows you "to be there". There is no qualification standard, no selection, no invitation, just an ability and willingness to pay the fee.

It is only in the most superficial universe - think Kardashian - where cash is conflated with "privilege".

PS.

Your sense of "privilege" and emotional attachment to being one of the "best of the best" has clouded your vision to such an extent that you completely misread JW's first post.

He said nothing negative about the Epic or that he doesn't "give a s*** about the epic". He merely recommended that (if offered the choice) one should pick 4 months in Europe over 7 days in the Cape. Objectively, that is a rational view.

Only a fanboy, so enthralled by having "competed at the pinnacle of the sport", could take good, common sense advice and see it as an attack on a well organised event open to anyone who wishes the participate.

PPS.

I am very happy that you believe that you have done "the toughest mountain bike race in the world". You are wrong, but I salute you nonetheless.

Well I salute u back sir, but you misread the Part where I said JW slants the epic every chance he gets on Bikehub, it was not a conservative suggestion. Thats why he got roasted.

Well, **** me.  Our definition of "got roasted" must be completely different.

I just saw a kiddie drop his ice-cream and start throwing a tantrum.

Ja ja, the youre not one of us part was a bit excessive, but that part is not about me, its about people like you slanting the race with no merit. U took a big one on the chin doc, took it with some class, good on u.

I’m not a Doctor, your information seems wrong again.

Well done for the major achievement - although I don’t like Epic much from

The aspect to what i have seen it from the other side like broken marriages, friendships and people going into insane debt amongst others - added the personality much like the way you are now, I do have respect for people who live for it. That’s their thing. I have mine.

Nevermore I wish you well, I really do and please feel free to troll, burn or whatever me, at the end of the day you the one having a **** day and week over this. It’s really not worth it. Focus on riding your bike or what makes you happy.

Cheers

Sir, I respectively disagree. Example : in 2017 we ended up round about 250GC, which is far from the pointy end, that was the hardest race ive done in my life. The pressure was insane. Bike-packing is a holiday, and ive done Trans Cape which is one of the best events and adventures ive ever been on, highly recommended

See, you should have gone to John first and saved the 70K entry fee

actual converstaion when meeting a friend of my daughter's a while back. A week or so after the end of the Epic. I had just finished cycling (not the Epic) so was still in my cycling kit -

him: oh, you cycle.

me: yes. do you cycle?

him: yes

me: mountain or road?

him: both, but mostly mountain. I've just done the Epic. My second one.

me: (lost for words)

The okes that drop Morzine into every conversation/post are as bad, if not worse than the okes who drop the fact that they've done the Epic.
