Ha - my bike is too old to be bashing cars with.

Entitlement? How does that work? Because I don’t toe your line on all cyclists being saints and all car drivers at fault?

Why I am just saying nothing...

South Africans are generally angry people, its not really our fault either, there is a lot to be angry about in this country.

Agreed 100%...but...it only makes it worse for everyone right?

The ANC gets exactly what is wants when citizens turn on each other.

Having just spent 2 weeks in SA after having been away for a little over 3 months.

You can immediately sense the tension, anger and self preservation mode on the roads.

It is something that is easily forgotten once you haven’t been there for a while and it’s all too easy to sit and judge from afar.

Yup its a pretty sad situation really.

I have been working from home for a little over a year now, whenever I need to drive somewhere Im reminded why I like working from home.

In a 5km drive I will see at least 10 people breaking traffic rules, almost get driven into at least once and often more than once have someone in a double cab bakkie driving up my ass (Im driving at the speed limit)

The cost of living is going up substantially and everyone is paying more and more to municipalities and government that give nothing in return.

Life in general in SA is both frustrating and infuriating in equal measure.

There are still some wonderful sides to it though, being 2 minutes away from a relaxing walk on the beach or enjoying the sunshine still keeps me just happy enough not to leave yet.

The ANC has an agenda to push, they need their voting masses to remain uneducated and ignorant as far as possible to keep voting for them. Fear, superstition and "us vs them" are just the tools they use.

I always get annoyed at the hatred pushed on everyone by the media in terms of race, on the ground its not nearly as bad as its portrayed to be.

When I used to drive to the Cradle route via Avianto I would give a quick hoot to warn the riders ahead of my approach (cycists often ride 3-4 abreast on this narrow stretch, and the riders would respond with middle finger etc and a lot of arm waving and shouting so its quite likley the cyclist wasnt provokes...I now avoid this stretch of road to avoid stopping and donnering someone!

I agree, 'hooting to make the rider aware of us' sounds a bit too innocent to me. Maybe more like a hoot and a ****you.

Was that quick hoot delivered when you were already right up their back wheels driving at 120km/hr and using that "Listen here cretin I'm annoyed" hooter tone .....?

I took my youngest for a drive around the peninsula the day for the Argust this year. She wanted to see where daddy was going to ride his bicycle. Somewhere just after the reserve I came upon a group of cyclists, fairly large group 20 odd riders was my guess. I saw them from a distance so slowed down and matched their speed while hanging about 50m back from their last rider. at this stage they were taking up the whole lane so I gave a short sharp hoot and waited.

They quickly shuffled into at worst a double pace line, leaving enough space for me to pass them safely in the other lane. At this point a poephol in a 4tjuna comes speeding past me and the group of cyclists and naturally the 4tjuna gets the friendly handgesture :)

I then proceeded to overtake and got a lot of friendly thank you waves

It very much depends on the execution what the outcome will be. Drive like a poephol and you get the one finger salute.

Drive with consideration and you get the friendly wave.

Cyclist who rides like a tjop doesn't have to die. This isn't Game of Thrones....

Now if that group had left enough space for the 4tjuna to pass, how close would it actually have passed them?

Easy to see that you have done your fair share of riding on the road.

Unrealistic dream I know, but I would love for people to be forced to commute to work on the bicycle after getting their Learner License for 12 months before they may apply for a drivers license.

1. They will see how scary it is when a car passes you at speed, within close proximity, thus they will give cyclists a wide berth whenever they become drivers.

2. They will see it is actually liberating to ride to work instead of drive to work, so some might stick with riding to work, which equates to less cars on the road and then everyone wins.

The Island I will buy in the future will have a ban on all cars and everybody who emigrates to there will be issued with a brand new bicycle on arrival and will receive free bi-montly bike services at the Royal Service Centre

I used to notice that when return to Gauteng from holidays in Eastern cape or KZN. The minute you hit the Jozi freeways your moermeter redlines quickly negating all benefits of the holiday.

Gauteng is a stressful place to live.

The ANC must run The Bike Hub too...

We all turn on each other in an instant!

And then forget what the original post was actually about.

There is a lot of wanting to be right, but if you don't get that, at least don't be wrong

Probably more like a quick tap on the hooter to let the cyclists that veer all over the place know there is danger approaching seeing how most are pretty oblivious in that area at the best of times... I

My mom stayed near Kloofzicht in the Cradle for about 4 months earlier this year...what a nightmare it was driving through there on weekends to visit...eventually I wound up going through in the evenings so as as to avoid the muppets....
