Accommodation this late is the only problem, Sanddrif is fully booked

Try Driehoek, much quieter than Sanddrif (and definitely my preference of the two). Or Cederberg Oasis a few kays south of Sanddrif.

We stayed at Kaleo guest farm and did some riding there, they have pretty good trails on the farm there. The Tankwa trek is held from the farm so you have access to most of those trails.

That's unfortunate. At Sanddrif you can cycle their trails as part of your stay, but coming from elsewhere you will have to pay for each ride - but it's totally worth it.

On our recent Cedarberg trip in 2019, we stayed at Nuwerus - also quite a nice camping site with hiking options. There is a killer hill just as you exit on your way back towards Ceres on the gravel road.

You can also do a +-50km round trip towards Kromrivier, grab a few beers there which is highly recommended, and head back to the camp site.

Honestly, anywhere you stay in the Cedarberg will be fine and you will get to ride your bike and have fun.

Hey guys,

Am looking to get away this weekend, somewhere that has self catering accommodation and trails.

I stay in Cape Town and looking for somewhere in the Western Cape preferably.

I'll be travelling alone.

Cheers

Greyton is always a forgotten destination. There are some entertaining trails.

Great idea for a thread.

Anyone know if some of those Tanks Trek trails are open to ride when staying (or not staying at?) at Kaleo?

You can ride the Houdenbek trails if you stay there. Part of tankwa trek. If one is looking for solitude and a good ride Houdenbek is amazing!

Really vague query, I could list a hundred options off the top of my head but they probably wouldn't help.

What quality of accom do you want? Price range...

What sort of riding?

How far do you want to drive?

I would look at mtbroutes.co.za for trail head options

And budgetgetaways.co.za for beds.

But since school holidays start this weekend I think you will be fishing for scraps

My sort of undiscovered suggestion, https://www.gvbconservancy.co.za/green-route.html

Heidelberg is not that sexy so you could get accom easy enough

For me, personally, if I want great riding and a great place to stay, where the family will be comfortable and happy while I ride, then it must be the Eselfontein cottage. You'll have nearly a 100 km of single track all on private land. You'll hardly have to set a knobblie on a jeep track and the trails will vary from shaded forest and stream stuff to gnarly rocky mountain goat stuff with all the magical flowy bits you could wish for in between.

It looks great but not for a person travelling alone like myself
