very very disappointing I don't understand this decision, my opinion is tikkie downhill is much more dangerous than potholes on a 15% climb...

maybe some of the wine farms said no?  press time is starting this side, maybe there are too many trucks in and out. You literally have D'ria, Altydgedaght, Bloemendal, Maastricht, Nitida, Klein roosboom, durbanville hills, meerendal, diemersdal, groot phesantekraal on that old route.

Think the issue is more the potholes AFTER the 15% climb, the downhill past Meerendal is genuinely a bit dodgy at the moment (not so much that I would have changed the route but maybe they couldn't get permission)

Wow. This is disappointing.

Having ridden that descent from Vissershok past Meerendal in the past month, I can confirm though that the road is in terrible condition. So i think its understandable.

in that case good on them for making a decision based on rider safety before something happens...

"The City of Cape Town recently repaired potholes on Vissershok Road, but conditions on Vissershok remain a concern. After extensive discussions with the roads authorities, it was decided to change the 99er long route, in the interest of safety"

With the Clara Anna development there are loads of trucks using & destroying that road - going to be a problem for a while still...

Kudos to them, they obviously wanted to have Vissershoek as it was in their original plans.

After the crash at the start of Wellington race this is probably a good idea putting safety first.

If there is a stinking cross wind it will be plenty tough enough.

Agreed, there is construction at River club as well and the roads are already taking a beating, they should really do more to get them to repair the damage.

We went to cycle Vissershok after Durbie Dash last year. Road wasn't great.
Still really disappointing to have a tough route watered down.

Rain predicted, so might even literally get watered down...

Remember that finalé with the Malanshoogte gravel section then the Malians' climb, fast down hill to Vissies Rd and then up the wall of Vissershok before the bumpy drop into DurBieVille, with the 4 min PPO effort up Aurora with Oom Odendaal making many bearded men weep. 🥴

Was more sand than gravel. I just remember people sliding all over the show trying to keep the bike upright. I enjoyed that route though. Would be nice if they just tarred that section and go up there again.
