Cycling glasses for people wearing permanent glasses

Hey guys.

I am an enthusiastic mountainbiker and I wear permanent Glasses.

They are starting to show wear and scratches from scratches and I regurlary have to swnd them in for cleaning.

Is there something like cyclimg glasses that has inserts or something so that I dont have to ride with my permanent glasses and can stil see ??

I too wear permanent glasses as I'm short sighted. Ive heard of prescription cycling glasses but have not researched them further.

 

I use an old, well fitting pair of glasses for cycling. Has worked well for the past 5 or 6 years now, except for the odd day in which they fog up which luckily only happens less than a handful of times a year

You get the ones with an additional insert that your optometrist "cuts" to your prescription.

I have a set I have been using for years, and it is robust. Use it for both Road and Mtb riding. 

It must be the cheapest option out there. 

Investigate D'Arcs also, I'm under the impression they also have with the inserts.

Oakley have the ability to put your prescription into some of their lenses.

 

Talk to your optometrist, they should be able to help. Discovery paid for mine.

I know of Rudi projects with inserts but pricey.

I am on my second set off Oakley prescription sunglasses. It is a pricey exercise but well worth it, not as pricey as rudi projects. Just never get the ones where you have 2 sets off lenses on top off each other.

My adidas evil eyes from 2006, cost R5500 then, still using them, have replaced the outer lenses about 2011 for R1400. As Wb said, very well made. A bit tired after 14 years though, and I don't see my speedo as well anymore, wearing multifocals now

Trained and raced for many years, I have never purchased a cycling specific pair of prescription glasses. My prescription glasses cost enough, would rather upgrade my bike first.

With out prescription glasses I would bounce of trees! I simply wear my old pair when I ride. Obviously this is dependent on your prescription but I am able to wear a pair or two from my current prescription when riding. I have a set for mountain bike and a pair of sunglasses for the road.

Glasses are great for wind and mud, hence never opted for surgery or contacts.

I am selective when buying new glasses, I don't like wrap around Oakley like frames as these move when racing mountain bikes. I also avoid frameless and half style frames. Not only for cycling but my old pairs are used to paint and work so need to be strong. Police and rayban have some great frames for all the said.

I honesty have about 6 pairs or glasses in active use.

I live on a z1000 motocycle so need a pair of glasses that slide into a full face helmet. Fun stuff.

You can try PowerRace they have a range that have inserts for prescription lenses.

Ask Wyatt what he can get or has.

I tried a pair of prescription Rudy Project spectacles. The lenses were made specifically to my prescription. What an absolute disaster… I wear multifocals. The problem is that the much greater curvature of the lens with the Rudy Project frame creates a whole lot of issues with multifocals – and nobody bothered to tell me this before they sold me the product. In the end they gave me a full refund. I now have a standard Mykita titanium frame with standard multifocal lenses and photochromatic effect and then also surface hardening et cetera. I find it works brilliantly and is the best option by a long shot. The frame is practically indestructible and if I ever damage a lens, then I will simply have it replaced – which I would have to do with any other set of cycling specific spectacles anyway.

Having tried a number of different options, I now use Rudy Project’s with the separate lenses insert, works really well for me as I cannot ride with contact lenses as they are super irritating when a bit of dust gets in your eyes. Also as an aside, I find photocromic lenses that adapt to the sun most useful so that you can still see what is going on when hitting shady sections, while still having eye protection, they also gave vents to prevent fogging. The nice thing is also being able to easily move the script lenses across to other pairs of Rudy Project’s. Cannot comment on bifocals as I only use single script lenses. The Rudy insert is expensive yes, but the reusable as you update script later when needed.

I had lenses cut to fit my Adidas Evil Eye pro and Rudy Project glasses. My optometrist used a non approved company to cut the lense to replace the original at half the price of what a approved dealer would charge. 4 years in with my RP glasses and no problems.
