Training buddy of mine going through a green light yesterday had a car turn across in front of him. Hit and run, left him lying in the middle of the intersection and drove off.

You and your bike will come off second best. Be careful out there, it's a war zone.

Yup. Broken femur was what the surgery was for.

yikes, hope he mends up soon.

do you know approximately what time it happened ? I went through that intersection in the morning (as did a few hundred others by the looks of the roads yesterday) but might have been earlier than him.

It must have been about 5:10

ok, so way way earlier than when I went through.

I'm actually more worried these day about green lights than red, at least with a red light you stop, check and only proceed when green or safe, with a green light the temptation to just go straight through as you rightfully should is high, having to slow down and make sure its safe first is counter intuitive.

I hope they catch the chop.

Yeah, even when driving the car, assuming you have right of way is getting to be dangerous.

It seems to me that people are getting more impatient while driving takes risks just to gain a few seconds. Driving to Harties this weekend on Sunday afternoon there was about three cars that could not wait for it to be save to overtake. The first a car behind me that can not wait for me to pass the slower car in front of me...decided on a solid white to overtake me and the car in front of me on an incline with some oncomming traffic...the same with a car behind the other car as well...if I didn't slow down in order to make a larger gap in front of me it would've been an accident of note. Little later on the same road some idiot again on the on cooming traffic decided he also needs to overtake two cars with us approaching.

On my way back a guy in his Hilux bakkie decided he owns the road...moving so far right that I needed to drive as far left as possible in order just to miss him...no swerwing back into his lane just casually continues to drive on.

The last issue was when we decided that we want to go through the tunnel...at one stage some person decided to ignore the red light in order to go through...the other side was green and the traffic decided to move just to meet each other half way. The culprit can not reverse and on the other side multiple cars were behind each other. We were stuck for about 20 minutes before getting through and by that time the traffic was a nightmare.

I just want to move to a quiet town where there are hardly traffic. Out of sight...out of mind...

Something I've noticed now is guys just overtaking, even if its not safe. I think they know that the on coming car will move for them, its amazing to see it. They literally just don't give F....

I drive a Fortuner and its getting to appoint where I'm starting to feel really unsafe, my wife with her Kia reo refuses out right to to drive some of our roads.

Or if you have an obstacle in your lane, then you apparently have the automatic right of way to come into my lane...no matter what speed I may be travelling at....

We started at the Circus yesterday, headed out south beyond Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve. At times we were riding without a car in sight for Km at a time. One stretch of road between Heidelberg and the Vaal dam was the only exception.

If it wasn’t for the wind rushing passed my helmet straps, and the wheels rolling on the tar, there would have been silence. Absolute Bliss!

I dislike having to drive somewhere to ride, but this was sublime. Will be back once a month for the foreseeable future. Minimal glass on the roads, smooth tar and filled potholes.

I always remember those roads as being a pleasure to ride, even way back in the 90's.

road them a few months back with a group out there and as you said, sublime.

This morning a motorcyclist showed me his short middle finger because I stopped at a STOP.  Even if there is no one at the STOP, I will STOP!

This happened about 06H30 in the Persequor Technopark.

Hectic out there... everyone seems to have lost their marbles even the pedestrians.. it's like playing doge ball out there..add the damn state of the roads and it's just crazy.

I see they have a description of the car and are trying to track it down.

Hope they catch the person...

This should carry a mandatory 3 year sentence righ off the bat for fleeing the scene....
