One of the current issues is yobs stealing scooters, broad daylight.

Scooters are a massive issue in the UK, the gangs that cruise around stealing phones out of people's hands use them, so the theft on them is always very high.

I watched a documentary on the scooters gangs, its pretty scary how much they actually steal.

Dont know if we watched the same thing (Most stolen phones end up being exported) but ja, these guys are so quick but equally people are just glued to their phones at every opportunity....No-one really takes notice of whats going on around them these days....

One of my wife’s colleagues a few years ago had her phone stolen by scooter gang. Police were called an theycordoned off the block to check it all out.

The phones themselves end up in Nigeria mostly according to a documentary I watched as they get black listed here. Also interviewed a few of the thieves.

We also have a crime here unknown to za an that is stealing of catalytic converters. Coming to a town near you sometime I suspect. Here it’s serious cos ur car fails MOT if no convert or so an expensive item to replace.

Our locals hate being outdone, they have come up with their own tricks, like stealing the headlights out of VW Polos!

But yeah, it never ceases to amaze me what people will steal.

In the early 90's it was common knowledge that you could walk up to a Golf 2 and take certain body parts without needing to open doors or bonnets or anything. It would seem that VW continued with the same method of attaching things to their cars.

Damn expensive to replace I would think.

Never heard of that. But as you say ppl never cease to amaze.

Apparently on the Gti models (with LED lights), the cost of replacing a set of headlights is up to R35 000.00., which are the ones targeted in these thefts.

Just baffles me that it is so easy to remove. Surely it must break some of the mounting tabs off, rendering them useless!?

On my 2005 Polo (model with round lights) you must remove the bumper cover to get to some of the screws/mounting tabs, and this is an tedious process.

Hahaha most white South Africans think its only here that we have problems... The US and Europe are some incredible utopia where everyone is decent.... Shame.

especially those fleeing to the UK. ai ai ai...

The crime there is even worse and bike jacking isn't a novelty. Its just not spoken about in every tabliod. They have better things to write about like sex scandals and the local pensioners bingo money laundering club

"Concern is growing in the cycling community in Berkeley, California after multiple bikejackings in recent weeks.

At least five riders have been confronted since late March, with each theft sharing a similar methodology. The victims are typically approached when riding alone, forced off the road by at least one vehicle, and then have their bicycle stolen at gunpoint or knifepoint."
