Trainingpeaks and intervals.icu.

i use the coaching account where i can build workouts and plans as well as monitor progress.

intervals.icu spits out an estimated ftp which is nice to have but nothing that can’t be calculated by someone that knows where to look

Several ways.

is a rider getting faster over a given course?

is their average power improving ( if using a pm)?

is vo2max improving 

is recovery time reducing?

How is capacity to repeat load increasing. 
 

what you monitor depends a lot on the approach to achieving the desired training objective

I use the intervals.icu ftp estimate to track progress - I find that a flat out 40 minute zwift race is far preferable to a boring 20 minute ftp test.

I like the garmin endurance score and heat acclimation metrics and the vo2max estimate. Also by feel on certain staple sessions in my library - there's one called war of attrition which is essentially short vo2max intervals with longer recovery intervals at threshold followed by a 30 second high anaerobic effort at the end which gives a nice subjective indicator of where I am.

Speaking of acclimation metrics, Garmin says (often) that I’m acclimated to 1500m… yet I spend most of my time (live, work and train) +/- 1600m. Not even the virtual training (Indievelo/TrainingPeaks Virtual) at an average of 40-something would affect it, because my indieVelo rides don’t sync to GC. So I take those metrics with a pinch of NaCl

Does the same type of effort feel easier?

Can you hold an easy conversation but find yourself riding quicker.

Are hills easier to get up?

hills dont get easier, you just get up them faster.

Interesting. Most of mine is at sea level through to a max of about 900m and it says I'm acclimated to 1000m.

I'm sure they just round off to the nearest 500m

A good Cateye computer with cadence and 2 full waters bottle for weight training and Chris Carmichael training book ,serviced me well till I learnt EPO goes a lot further… ✔️😂

Been looking at decoupling , but need to get into the detail.
