Stefan Kung just beat him on a fast and flat Euro champs TT course, so he is also one to watch out for.

Yip. should be pretty close. That Euro course was flat and fast but this course has half the climbing and twice the distance. As @Mountain Bru says, I'm not sure who it suits, I only know that Ganna becomes more beatable the more climbing there is.

But like Shebeen says, snip

Wout is the complete package, he doesn't need Zeeman whispering sweet nothings in his ear to know what he must do. I will offer the Tokyo Olympics as exhibit "A". I don't think Remco needs that either. Since Tokyo, he has dominated every time he pinned a number on. I include Euro Champs in that, as he dominated that, and was simply outdone by whatever TBV are feeding Sonny to turn him from pack fill with a sometimes sprint into a mammoth breakaway specialist over lumpy terrain.

Gibbons had a stunning ride the other day.

If he can sneak into the early break, who knows, he might just hang on when the Main contenders come past and then surprise them with an attack as they out-mark each other... We can dream.

He also had a win in one of the Spanish Classics in May so lets hope

Are there any Austrian Maths lecturers doing the road race? If so I'm happy to put my money on them.

I think Annemiek with her masters in epidemiology is a better bet.

She didn't top the Charts at the European TT race, but she did give it a good go.

I doubt the peloton will do the same mistake twice in a single year.

Yes and no

(Well technically lactic acid)

This isn’t the thread for this discussion, but will share my research to show why it’s been incorrectly termed lactic acid for many years.

Wow, Tony Martin to retire immediately after Worlds. What an athlete. Sauce: CyclingTips

“Such a far-reaching decision is of course not easy to make,” he wrote. “Cycling has been a large part of life for a long time – with highs and lows, big successes and losses, crashes and comebacks. What many young riders dream of, I have achieved. In the last few months I have been thinking more of what is to come after cycling. The bad crashes this year have also caused me to question whether I am ready to continue to face the risks that our sport involves. I have decided that I do not want to, especially since race safety has not improved despite the many discussions about courses and barriers. I hope the cycling world will listen to the plans presented by my and other teams.

“Therefore I want to be fair to myself, my family and all my colleagues and end my career as a pro cyclist. I want to say farewell in a fitting manner at the Worlds time trial, which I won four times. I have trained hard for it.”

Remco goes comfortably fastest at Checkpoint 2, smashing the riders who went before him.

Some big guns still need to start, but this is going to be a high benchmark once he arrives at the finish.

As Remco crosses, he goes fastest. Beats the others by more than 40s.

Bissenger 2nd

Walsheid 3rd.

For now.

Top guns have yet to roll off the ramp.
