Dude I love twitter, I find it hilarious. You get some absolute **** nuts but I generally find the funny side of life on twitter.

I'm not super active on it and I probably only have about 7 followers and 2 of that is the same person cause the dork forgot his password to his account so had to setup a new one. If there's any social media I prefer it's twitter at the moment. FB can go "kruip" Insta is ok but Twitter is where it's at. I've found some people who share some funny **** on the blue bird....

I used my twitter account purely to follow my motorsport interests. Its a great tool to get the inside scoop before websites do. Yes.

Had a decent amount if followers and followed everyone that mattered in that world. I used to make a point of blocking anything, anyone and everything that twitters algorithm decided i needed to see because im south african. It’s hard work keeping your feed clean.

But theres a whole world out there colloquially referred to as ‘black twitter’. And i just couldnt anymore. I made the call with the Knysna fires back then and the absolute racist vitriol that was being spewed around from both sides popping up in my 100% motorsports orientated twitter feed. Theres a reason fools like trump preferred that platform. Its where the trolls hang out imo lol.

Me in my fortuner

Awkward Hide GIF - Awkward Hide Shy GIFs

I did encounter a Fortuna on Sunday that was being driven was the utmost consideration. I did my little track stand at the next traffic light and asked him if its a hire car?

"no....its mine" he replied in a bemused tone.

"Well you're far too considerate to be a Fortuna500 club member!" i replied/

he burst out laughing and tjjunes me " My other car is a BMW LOL"

For every 20 tjops in a Fortunja there's a gem that just gives you hope in humanity

I am 51 tmw and often hang my head and feel the same. I worry for my kids and feel doom & gloom when I read crap like that .

First things first Happy Birthday to.you, wishing you a great year, good.health and many more happy kilometers in.the saddle.

But the truth is thete will always ve an arse who.thinks like that and the worst part about it all is that a pot if drivers have that exactly mindset, therefore you.just have to.be extra cautious when you out there.

I have a little saying I like to repeat more often these days. "Some people have money to buy cars, but they do not have money to buy brains". My attitude is one where it doesn't matter who is right and who is wrong. The bicycle will always come short. With that approach I don't shout and swear at fools. I cycle in a way to survive.

About taxis. More than once I used them, by communicating with the driver, as a shield when crossing big dangerous intersections. About entitled Fortuners, how about those BMWs, and Audis. I recall an incident when it was extremely dry in the Cape. Calls for everyone to take care with cigarettes etc. to prevent fires were being made everywhere. Radio, newspapers, advertising, you name it. I came across this bloke in his topless Audi stuck in a traffic jam, carelessly throwing a cigi out of his car. A white car, white leathers inside and white clothes. Very entitled and very set on his image! I stopped, picked up his damn butt and threw it in his lap. He couldn't move and I enjoyed his rage while I continued on my merry way.

The "I" has become too important in South Africa these days. It is not just cars trying to intimidate cyclists, it happens all over and in different ways, but almost always because the "I" has become too important.

When I've been riding in and around Cape Town, taxis are usually very helpful: one escorted me through Sea Point after the driver had seen I'd been left hooked by a twat in bakkie.
And as mentioned above, using them at busy intersections is often a godsend.

As with most other Ians of the world, I’ll lay odds he absolutely will not have the courage of his convictions in person.

Keyboards are like alcohol, a lot of people can’t hold them well and it often reveals their true character.

Had the good fortune to encounter an Ian at a braai some years back. Very different having a bek when called out and within eye contact.

On the phone, having a smoke and finishing her make up with kids in the back - that was the most impressive multi-tasking I have seen.

Amateurs! I've seen a Danish cyclist take off his jacket whilst on the phone (bluetooth speakers), smoking a cigarette and carrying a leather attache case.

In other fun news - it's a R2,000 fine here if you jump a red light or don't have working lights front and back on your bike!

I've encountered Black Twitter and I remember the Knysna fires racial shitstorm that erupted.

My curios nature does lead me down that rabbit hole from time to time and I admit to scrolling through some of that ***. It's very sad that some folks feel that way but it's also good to know.

I can understand why you don't use it anymore.

I still don't understand this thread. I have ridden probably more than the average Joe around this country. About 15K kilometers last year. Nearly killed a handful of times. 100% of the time because the driver was distracted not because they wanted to kill me. I didn't write anybody and moan. If I decide to ride on the public roads it is up to me to stay alive. I do not care one iota who or what I piss off. This has been discussed on here to death. Now, to death plus one. Is it just me that finds this an outdated subject? It must be. Anyway I have a tour to plan. Less time on here will do me good.

You cycle way too much and you're missing the point of this thread . . .

How else do we manage to sneak in a thread where we can chat about whatever without being rapped over the knuckles for entertaining NCR content?

Stick to the rules - No politics, religion or CNN (No one needs any Brian Stelter in their life) and all should be fine

In saying that, enjoy your next tour . . . looking forward to some pichas.
