Thanks for all the opinions. Where can i get q20 bike lube seems like its not easy to get hold of. Will none of my options in the picture above be any good ?

Simply put i want something that works well but is not hard to come by.

Will Cajees have something ? Only bike shop i know of near me ( florida/westrand/roodepoort.

Cajees will only rip you off.  Disclaimer -  I encourage as many people as possible to avoid that shop

Just goodle map search 'bike shops west rand'  and you'll find a few ose to you

With just a bottle of lube.? 🤔

I'm in CTN so unfamiliar with the store, but I do sometimes get odds and sods from stores I otherwise don't use just because it's convenient, and I know what is more or less fair price.

Just plain old motor oil not synthetic.

Small drop on every joint before every ride - not even two minutes.

Clean regularly

Getting back into cycling now i recall many years ago a shop called discount cycles in randburg that sold me a chain lubricant that smelled like bannanas.

Worked great did not attract dirt i just cant recall what it was named and it probably is not being made anymore ?

I have the following in the Garage.(see attached)

Can i use any of these oils on my chain or should i rather get something else ?

I have heard someone say automotive oil contains detergants that will wash away oil in the chain so its not to be used. Is this the sane fir motorbike oil ?

The one's pictured is thin motorbike oil from honda 10w 30 then castrol 80w 90 which some say attracts dirt.

Castrol atf dx II which i use for power steering fluid and then a bottle of sasol synthetic m api sm/cf 5w/40.

Will any if these be good or rubbish ?

I am in the west rand area.

If i should get something else, what should i get.

Do you ride an ebike ?
If so, be sure to ebike specific chain lube.
If you have a 'normal' bike. That ebike lube will be even better...

Johan Bornman (old Hubber) used to advocate the use of motor oil on chains.
Those were always fun threads to follow...

I have read people using motor until someone mentioned it contains derergants that will dry out the chain.

That is why i still do not know if the 4T honda motorcycle oil that i have that is not used anymore contains detergents ? If not it really seems like it could work, not thick at all. But does it contain detergents like regular car oil ?

I have been using Squirt for some time and I am very happy so far. I cannot say how well it actually lubes but it does stop the chain from rusting and it does not attract dirt at all. It does not taste of bananas...

I've been using Squirt also. I have a chain and front ring (10 Speed MTB) with +- 6000 Km that is still registering under 0.5% Wear. I deduce that Squirt is a very good Lubricant. I lube every ride or every 30Km of MTB Riding.

Liquid OIL of any make used as chain Lube gets into the Disk Rotors and Contaminates Them Causing all Sorts of Braking Problems.

How would detergents dry out the chain?

it’s not like they create bubbles that blow lubricant away

Yeah, great for road bikes! But not so much MTB, especially not for very dirty /dusty rides.

ive found Smoove to be the best in any dry and dirty condition....doesnt cake on and attract dirt like others.the key is to not over lube and lube a clean chain

oh and motor oil on a chain is great if you want a sandy grinding drivetrain

If it sandy and grinding then the chain wasn’t cleaned properly.
Motor oil is fine for road use. Even in wet conditions. In dry dusty condition the wax keeps the fine grit out better.

best chain lube is wire rope dressing .
